I think small forwards need to have some spark about them to split from the very large pack of undersized junior midfielders who just ended up forward. Speed, nous, elite skills by hand or foot - you've got to have something or you'll see your place in the side filled by someone who does.

You can build a career off being tough and really fit, but I don't think you can retain it.

Motlop hasn't shown me his spark attribute yet.

Kozzy came to him still keen on a trade back and dude did everything he could to change his mind, showing him every instance where a player moved back to WA and it didn’t work out. Obviously knew he’d get a much bigger cut if he convinced him to stay. Quite rude tbh. Why does he hate us

Motlop looks like the classic undersized small who sets about trying to get his size up and temporarily sets back his dash. Check out his combine etc., the baseline is there and doesn't just go away. It'll come back and I'd much rather be trying to recruit on a low ebb than this situation with Kozzy. I will be shocked if Motlop is not, at the very least, a decent small forward.

He’s a Freo supporter. Or at least he used to be. Appears to be not so much now

It may not be as exciting as Kozzie Pickett but I know that Freo are heavily into Dan Curtin and he is not certain his long time future is in Adelaide. It’s not so much the football club but more he has not settled into Adelaide living. Unfortunately the eagles are of course also aware and also very keen.

So with Kozzie out of the picture there’s probably 2 positions I’d like filled by ready made player trades

A gun wing to provide some competition to Sharp - Nick Martin maybe ? ( I do think Chapman , Worner or Wagner could play this role and with Walker due back soon and then Simpson pushing for backline selection one of them probably should )

Definitely need a medium tall forward who pushes up the ground - light on in these stocks it would seem

Any suggestions for the above positions for a start in 2026 ?

With the $1,700,000 a year offer from St Kilda for De Koning, the $1,400,000 a year for Pickett now - out of contract players are going to expect marquee money.

Looking at our 22 plus depth, we don't need too much, and don't really needs a Rivers type of player.

upgrade Sharp - more than likely Whan can do this.
Another halfback - some more depth
Small and medium forward are the big areas we need more competition, especially with Walters likely retiring, Sturt always injured. We do have a few ok NGA's, so hopefully them come on.
