Fair enough. I just think your criticising a coach for making a harmless comment that I assume you agree with. I don't really get it. I doubt many would disagree with Nicks. Rankine is a bloody good player and his suspension negatively impacted their finals campaigns. That's why it was such a big story that has dominated his press conferences for a month. After they were knocked out, he stopped dodging that part and stated the bloody obvious.
I think the way they handled the situation exacerbated the impact on the players severely more than just losing one small forward/mid. If they had just fallen on their swords and Rankine publicly apologised on day one they would have had an infinitely better chance of getting their players minds on the job.

Suns and Lions should not be written off.

Ridiculous to assume Pies will just automatically go to the GF when the game relies a lot on teams plans going accordingly.
They don’t automatically go in, they beat the fatigued Lions or Suns. Comprehension problems?
We’re in the box seat where every side, bar Geelong, want to be. It’s why winning the QF is so important. It logic.

I find the groundswell of tips for GC hard to understand. They are 1st time finalists, regardless of form and talent . Have done well to win one final, would be very surprised to see them win 2. And I'm close to certain they won't win 3.
I have done some research and 2 is good, messing the bed for the 3 seems to be about right.

It happens every year, the team who lost the QF are shit and the team who won the EF are world champions.

Of course last night that was true, but last night had a team with lots of finals experience and out to atone for last year v a team lacking finals experience who got there by a weak draw.

Tonight’s game is like last night, but Brisbane are the experienced team and Gold Coast got lucky.

That's a whole different thing to what he said in the latest presser. I'm also critical of how AFC handled the Rankine stuff. I don't think they get that the issue is about discrimination rather than sledging. I don't think that anyone communicated that particularly well.

They are being coached by one of the best in the business

1-8 this year has been the most even. Remember, Hawks finished 8th, but had they won in the last round, they would have finished 3rd.

I give the Suns a good chance. Not just because of their strong midfield but more so looking at their opposition. The Lions are missing a lot of talent (Neale the latest casualty) and some in poor form (eg Cameron). But more importantly they looked tired last week. I was almost shocked to see them give up on the game and put token efforts with 7min to go on the clock and ‘only’ 22pts in it. Didn’t look good physically or mentally and that stood out to me because you don’t see the Pies under Fly so this (last time I remember us properly giving up was vs Hawks 2024 and we were down by a lot more). Not a done deal, but it’s far from the typical ‘reigning premier will bounce back without a doubt’ scenario.

Also I know this sounds like a hindsight 20/20 thing but the 5 teams left in it very clearly have the 5 best coaches in the game IMO. Even before this season’s outcomes I would have had 1. C Scott 2. Fly 3. Mitchell 4. Fagan easily. Hardwick obviously has the resume and shown adaptability now at GC and done an excellent job in terms of buy-in and guiding recruitment.

Ok great!!! Let’s hope they beat the Lions tonight then.

Not sure why Brisbane are such favourites tonight.
Previous finals experience I would have thought, personally. There surely can't be too many other reasons that make any sense to me.

3rd v 7th maybe too. But not that much between anyone in the top 8 this season.
It's been so close between all finalists throughout the year, that even Hawthorn winning the premiership from 8th (  :sick: ) wouldn't be all that much of a shock.
