What have we got to lose with hollands Vader ?
What did Gold Coast and Carlton lose?
Only what they paid.
What are we going to pay? Not much.
The fact that he's been sacked by 2 clubs, and none of the others are willing to go near him with a 10 foot barge pole, suggests that there are red flags all over him.

Only a fool would measure the damage he could potentially do in terms of salary & draft picks alone. There are the obvious risks of reputational damage to the club, cultural and disruptional damage to the team & player lists, then there's the cost of having a minder watching him 24/7 in a (probably vain) attempt to keep him out of trouble.

Note that Nicks has spent the last 5 years trying to fix the club's culture, turning Adelaide from a toxic wasteland which players were eager to exit - transforming it into a destination club where non-SA players are eager to re-sign and/or be traded to the club. Recruiting Hollands would be completely anathema to what Nicks has been working to achieve during this time.

Given Hollands's history, there is almost no upside whatsoever to recruiting him.

Well we will have to delist someone to allow room to select Ah Chee.
Yes, but they will then be re-drafted in the RD. Doing it this way has no SC implications for the club.

Delisting a contracted player and not re-drafting them has SC implications.

Cox (no), Mitchell (probably not), Hobbs (maybe, but probably the same).

The only one is Hollands...but...
Has Jacob Blight been picked up yet?

Surely someone gives him a crack, Doggies maybe?

Almost no upside?

This is a guy who only 5 years ago was probably the #1 draft pick pre ACL and is 12 months removed from a season where he averaged 18 touches and a goal playing every week for a team that made the finals.

The upside is that he is proven to be capable of being a worthy contributor at AFL level and it is reasonable to think he has the capacity to improve and be more than that.

The risks are as obvious as they are unquantifiable so they may well outweigh the upside. Clearly a lot of clubs feel that way, probably ours included, and fair enough.

But only a fool would not see or acknowledge the upside.

In fact the upside is the only reason we are having the conversation.

The way I see it it's becoming clear AFL clubs aren't up for the risks involved and you can be sure unlike us they have all the relevant facts available behavioural wise. Quite possible he's already on 2 strikes as well given AFL clubs reluctance.

Maybe a State League gives him an opportunity and it's probable that's his best path back to the AFL

Currently the most interest is in whether Carlton delist him or he rocks up for training day 1 of their preseason training.

If a single player can ruin the culture we’ve apparently built then it’s not real culture anyway.

Was delisted yesterday

Well then he's absolutely a free hit now, though I'd suggest they would have taken a Brodie like pick for him just to see him gone. I guess they have to pay him out now ?
Said they can’t guarantee it but might be available for a train on spot with them

Dunno, it could be his Magnum Opus - like imagine if he took in this poor troubled lad, everyone got around him, kid has a redemption arc, wins a brownlow, Nicks gets coach of the year, a flag, becomes the face of beyond blue, wins a nobel peace prize and ushers in a new era of personal spiritual enlightenment. Brilliant.

Million to one chances work out, 9 times out of 10. I have a statistics degree to prove this. No way we should pass on this opportunity.

I don’t get the rush to write off Welsh. Wasn’t he always drafted as a project player?
Not really, already had the the physique and more and more it's starting to look like the manchild agaianst his peers thing could be the case with Tyler, very rarely have we seen his 2.92 sec 20m on display on the lead. Endurance was the question mark.

Carlton have suggested that they redraft him.

Surely not given what has happened.

The only flip side to it 'could' be that he realises its a last chance saloon and gets himself out of his funk. He grew up supporting the crows so a part of him might be elated to get a chance to play for them. He would cost bugger all draft and salary cap wise.

Carlton was his "last chance saloon" and he chose to shit the bed instead of "getting himself out of his funk".

Redraft him?. They just paid him out a years contract, why would tgey redraft him to have to pay him more money?

The are going to monitor his attitude and endeavour during pre season before making a decision whether they will re draft him or not.

They have not made any promises, but he knows what’s in front of him if he wants a third chance.

Why would he if there's a chance Carlton will re-list him
Surely they wont given it's untenable.

Carlton hoping someone else picks up his salary.
