And we all know how that ends.

I agree, I have serious doubts Nicks will make the call when it needs to be made, but that’s a silly reason to retire Tex before he wants to, when he showed not just last week, but the whole second half of the year, that he’s still performing at a really high level.

He isn’t able to do this.

Have you seen Tex trying to pick the ball up off the ground the last few weeks or get odd his opponent in a one on one contest.

He just can’t go anymore unfortunately.

This just simply isn’t true.

He isn’t as quick or agile as he once was, and who knows what another 6 months and a pre season does to his body, but his performances in the last half of the year have been at a really high level. Last week was vintage Tex he just didn’t kick straight.

There’s no harm in seeing if he can squeeze another year out if the passion is there. Look at Geelong with Hawkins last year, we just need to be ready to make the call if it’s needed.

So who would be on your list of untradeables?

Think my list is currently only two players
Rachele
Thilthorpe

Curtin
Thilthorpe
Rachele
Dawson
Michalanney
Rankine
Worrell
Draper

But realistically no one is getting traded unless they ask for it, it’s just not how the AFL works.

Keane
Michalanney

Why on earth would you even consider any of the above?

Let's say a club like the Bulldogs offered to trade us a genuine midfielder for Keane or Michalanney

You wouldn't do that deal?

Why is there a focus on trading players? You don’t trade players to bring in players, we’ve got enough picks to trade in players. Add to our list don’t trade it away.

Besides the player that should be gone are worth nothing.

I'm not advocating for chucking players out.

But if a club comes knocking with a great deal, there would be very few players I'd list as untouchable

Who though?

I wouldn’t consider trading Max unless they offered Bont or Richards which obviously won’t happen.

Max was excellent last night. Didn’t have a great game against Collingwood because he was stupidly played forward, but back in defence he was great. Both him and Worrell showed they could handle finals.

If we convinced Richards to come here and the Bulldogs wanted picks and Michalanney I'm doing the deal, but if they asked for Thilthorpe I'm saying no

That to me means Michalanney is tradeable

To improve our midfield I absolutely would without a second thought
The thing is, who are they going to give up in return for a player like Max.

Also, no one in their right mind would trade Dawson or Rankine. There's very few players in the league as good as either of them, and even fewer who have the skillset of Rankine.

If West Coast said "we'll trade you Harley Reid for Dawson and picks" I'm doing the deal

Good thing youre not a list manager.

You dont trade the guy who literally carried our midfield all year for a 20yo kid to do the same.

Its the perfect way to kill his career

I wouldn't push him out or anything. But if a club came knocking, yeah I'd do it. He's 29 years old next year and has failed in finals. I absolutely would use his currency to upgrade the midfield if a golden opportunity presented itself

But then it puts us in an even worse spot depth wise.

If youre saying Dawson AND picks, that kills any chance you have to improve the midfield depth we so badly need.

What pick will we have this year, like 20 or something?

You wouldn't trade Dawson and pick 20 for a young superstar mid?

So does this mean (with news Taylor and Bond are re-signing) we NEED Tex and Smith to retire and Murphy to be delisted just to make the minimum 3 draft picks, then any trade would mean a player has to leave too?
No.

Crouch, Murphy and one of Smith or Walker. It'll be Smith.

Pretty sure Burgess and Harry count as well

We have 7 open spots. We can re-sign Taylor and Bond, and keep Tex and Smith and take 3 draft picks. I doubt both of them go around again though.

We can always de-list/re-rookie if we get tight again, but I don't see us trading in more than 1-2 players, and can see Butts/Sholl leaving.
