That's a lot of projecting...

How about we see how this year goes before determining our priorities.

I doubt Maley will be delisted within a year.
They only gave him a 12-month contract. They obviously have doubts about him, or he would have been given at least 2 years (which is the minimum standard for most traded players). Right now, he's probably only 50/50 to be on our list in 2027.

I'm not writing him off. If he performs and shows something, then no doubt he'll be offered another contract. But there are obviously big doubts, given the unusually short contract he was given upon arrival at the club.

You should have learnt by now not to write players off before they have even played a game with the club...

Then why draft him in the first place

Which part of "I'm not writing him off" did you not understand?

Why do you think he was only given a 12-month contract? You do understand how rare it is for a traded player to be given anything less than 2 years?

You have a habit of projecting talent on things like contracts... & note you have doubled-down to just prove my point.

Exactly the same as Ben Keays who got a 1 year rookie contract too.

Projecting? Yes that is exactly what list management is. Am I in the wrong thread?

You cannot wait until the end of the year to determine priorities. Ridiculous statement. If you plan on trading in any half decent player, an approach must be made early. Can’t wait until the end of the year like you’ve suggested 😂

I note you chose not to answer any of my questions. You're better than this Kane - you don't usually play the man, rather than the ball.

I have provided reasons why I think he's only a 50/50 chance of getting a 2027 contract. Feel free to provide your own reasons why you think he will, rather than blind optimism and playing the man.

Keays performed, and was given another contract. If Maley performs, then no doubt he'll be given another contract too. If he doesn't he'll be out on his ear. Right now, it's clearly a 50/50 bet.

Disagree, the reason they didn't wait for him to be delisted was to guarantee we got him, they wanted him right or wrong and kiboshed anyone else picking him up as a delisted free agent or through the rookie draft by clubs who had picks before us. I'll be very surprised if we only give him the one year given we clearly targeted him.

Maley was out of contract and likely would have been delisted so he got to Adelaide for an exchange of nothing picks. Adelaide got Maley and pick 64, Roos got pick 57 and a 2026 4th round pick.

In my original post i said i will wait until during the seaon to judge new players, rather than pre-empting based on things like the length of their contract.

I judge players on how they perform... everything else is irrelevant!

Projecting based on little evidence...

Are you a journalist lol.

Well if you arent getting games and a contract at North then the club was probably cautious and rightly so. You arent going to offer a 2 year contract for a player who isnt seen as a must have at a bottom club. I think everybody knows including Finbar he has a year to prove himself.

Before the draft I would have said that he was a monty to be on the list for longer than 12 months but post draft I think he has some work to do since we got Ludowyk.

This has a lot of Burgess about it. Which I dont mind, we win either way as we are not reliant on him. Either he comes in and proves himself and plays well, or he plays out the year in the Sanfl and then disappears. We lose nothing really. Was just a break glass in case of an emergency.

Ludowyke is years away from AFL, no way he'll be impacting the AFL for at least a couple of years, doubt Ludowyke comes into the Maley discussion at all in 2027.

fair point. however he is the same height has Curtin so considering the impact Curtin has made in just his second year, its a bit unwise to merely suggest Ludowyke is out of the discussion entirely until 2028. He may be a bit of a surprise packet this year and play well at Sanfl level pushing for a game by the end of the season.

Do I truly expect it, no. As I said you are likely right here.

I don’t get that you would draft someone you have big doubts on
Look,.I did not think there's anything particularly controversial with what Vader said. They only gave him a single year contract - that's not typical. It's so they have options at the end of year, which absolutely COULD be extending him for more years

You are comparing a pick 8 with a pick 50. No comparison

Curtin wasn't coming off a PCL injury after the Nationals and still in rehab when we drafted him. Ludowyke is quite a bit less physically developed than Curtin was when he joined us also. This lad is more Thilthorpe when we drafted him minus the physical development than he is Curtin.
