Yes, two other Teams did pit and changed two cars in the space of 10 seconds

McLaren surely could have done the same with Oscar in the lead and Lando second?

Something stinks

I agree the 2 stops could have been done quickly. Unless they were worried they would botch a pit stop and ruin one of their races (which they ruined anyway ironically)

Kurun covered this in his skypad analysis looking at the positioning of all the cars before and after the SC pit.

There was a strong chance that bringing both drivers in would see the second driver - Norris - re-enter the race behind Colapinto even with a perfect pit stop which would have seen Norris losing time during overtaking on the restart that would have severely damaged his chances of overtaking Verstappen before he was required to come in for a tyre change. It would have cemented him to a 3rd place finish failing another SC.

For this reason it would have made sense to pit only one driver and leave the other out there (i.e. split strategy) and that driver should have been Piastri given he was in the lead. But they chose to pit neither - the worst possible strategy which cost Piastri the race win and Norris finished 4th anyway.

Max deserves the WDC for the pathetic display McLaren have put on all season. I’ll be cheering him on if Oscar can’t get it done this weekend (which I think is a long shot at best).

McL deserve this mess.

Well done Max and RB
Been saying this for a while, Max needs to win the championship to show McLaren up for the fools they are.

Having no No'1 driver but treating Lando as if he is, is so stupid.

Not making the call for Oscar because it might double stack the cars and cost Lando a spot is just dumb. Surely they knew that pitting under the safety was the thing to do. How can a room full of engineers, strategists and egg heads not work this out?

Said it a few times but it’s going to be interesting to see how Drive to Survive makes a mess of these shenanigans

So far up Browns clacker over the years it will be interesting to see how it plays out in March

Does anyone actually like Fat Brown? I mean no one liked Christian so they always made him a villain but they seem to love Fatso.

If they'd sacked Horner a couple of races earlier Max would have the WDC sewn up.
Doubtful, car was always going to improve as it was set in motion before Christian left.

It's all max. He sets the tone.
100%

Reckon Max would have accepted being kept out there when it was clear a pit stop was needed and he was leading?

Reckon Max would stop on lap 24, to ensure his WDC leading team mate Lando would get an uncompromised stop on the final available lap 25? Had Oscar "missed" the pit entry, Lando would have been stuffed.

Either he dives in last second (3.5 sec to react which isn't enough time for a radio call) and then wrong drivers tires are ready, or he stays out and has to double stack on lap 25.

That would have made a huge difference as he'd come out in like 8th.

Again, Max wouldn't let the result play out the way it did if he was in Oscars shoes...

Gaming the team sounds more like a Fernando Alonso move than Max but I like it!

A couple of seasons ago when they were average he came across as the knock about type ready to take the Wolf and Horner Show on; but watching him this season has made me spew a little bit into my mouth a couple of times

Max is also the guy who, knowing what's required, won't just drive to a win and then hope for Lando to choke. He knows his best chance is a scrap with Lando, and either driving him off, into him, or forcing a penalty on him.

I truly believe if Max was leading in the latter stages and Lando second, Max would slow down to create more risk for Lando in trying to pass him.

Oscar... I expect him to drive fast and cross his fingers he gets rewarded with this much sponge about "karma" he's owed....

For all of McLaren's buffoonery, Oscar also has himself to blame. Just finishing in the points in Azerbaijan and the brazil sprint race would have had him in a strong position to compete.

An average 5th place in baku and even a 4th place in the sprint would have had him behind Lando by 1 point .

Yeah, that will be great to watch. hopefully with an Oscar title at the end.

But I doubt it, so go Max!

So my wish list for Abu Dhabi:
  • Racing bulls and Yuki 'accidently' take out Lando. Failing that, Max and Lando tangle.
  • Max finishes second (first if Oscar doesn't win).
  • Oscar wins, Max second and Lando out or 6th so he ends up third in the championship.
Not asking for much really.

Yeah nah. If Lando hadn't of speared off in Canada he'd be champion already.
Don't buy the "only has himself to blame" when they've all made multiple mistakes.

What do people think of Lando's mental fragility with the pressure on him to protect the championship lead?

We know he can handle pressure, he's an F1 driver, but he doesn't seem to like or cope well with additional pressures on him.

Anyone think he might bin it all by himself?

Lando has come a long way from the mistakes in the early part of the season. He still makes the odd mistake but it would take an almighty **** up for him to do himself out of the title. If he doesn't win, I think it'll be with a little help.

The thing is, Lando knows he only needs to podium. He doesn't need to push himself hard at the front. So he can afford to coast a little to minimize the risk of mistakes. The other two on the other hand, need to push hard to have any slight chance.
