I’ll have a glass of what you’re having; the Hawks speed and skill are going to do some unspeakable things to our boys next week, regardless of Charles.
Our list isn’t built for what the game has evolved into, the Hawk’s is.

The game evolves when good coaches and teams take what they have and make something beautiful out of it.

Collingwood three years ago had no key forwards except Mason Cox, an aging midfield and an 18 year old Nick Daicos
They managed to turn what looked like a dumpster fire into their rope-a-dope, rebound style based around having lots of small forwards running into space.

Geelong in 2022 had an aging team that everyone wrote off. They built a game plan based on slow and deliberate ball movement that built on their strengths and won a flag

Richmond in 2017 lost their second tall forward to injury. They built the forwards pressure scramble-ball style, figured out how to get the most out of Martin and won 3 premierships with it.

The league didn't evolve in their direction. Those clubs figured out their style and forced the league to bow down before it and adjust.

We have a once in a lifetime, unique captain - a 196cm unicorn who can do almost anything on the footy field. We use him exclusively as an in and under grinding midfielder, except when we randomly throw him in the ruck. We have two Coleman medal winning forwards and can't consistently kick 10 goals in a game against anyone. We have a unicorn ruckman, two other number 1 draft picks, unique players like Saad, Silvagni, even players who have moved on like SPS, Fisher, Dow who brought stuff to the table.

It's not that the league is evolving away from us. We simply cannot figure how to unlock the best of our players and consistently play the game on their terms. It works for a quarter, maybe, and we look as good as anyone. But aside from that our game plan just looks like hard work, all the time - like the game plan is fighting against the players just as much as the opposition...

I think it’s far worse than those losses. At least in those instances we played against good teams with very good players. Melbourne had greats in their prime like Lyon, Schwarz, Neitz and Stynes. The Geelong loss was more galling because they had Buddha Hocking, Bairstow and Mansfield out but they still had the great Gary Ablett senior.

No offence to Richmond but they had some ageing premiership greats, young rookies and a bunch of journeymen. Hats off to them for the great spirit they showed but we should have won that game by ten goals. The fact we were 7 goals up at one point makes it even worse. It’s hands down the worst lose I have ever seen in my lifetime.
It’s unquestionably the worst.

Not any point over summer or the lead up did I even contemplate that this could occur. What a moron I am for showing even the slightest bit of belief in this team.

Not any more.

There is a lot of criticism of Harry, too my eye without rewatching the game the ball hardly ever gets kicked to Harry's advantage. I don't know if it's Harry positioning, the defenders positioning or delivery but one thing is for sure and that is I'm not going to re-watch that game

Unfortunately Harry is not a contested mark his main go is in on the lead and if a defense is switched it’s not that hard to shut down. When Charlie comes back H should be further up the ground with Kemp and Charlie closer to goal.

Barbecued by our senior core.

McGovern was disbolical. Weak in the contest, terrible decision making backed by poor execution.

We chased Haynes to settle our backline...let that sink in. Played with the grace and composure of a cat tossed into a bath.

Saad is chaotic. We need rebound and genuine drive...we get dinky kicks around the corner and spasmodic runs to nowhere imparticular.

Cottrell did his usual disappearing act.

Acres is marginal AFL quality and the margin is getting finer.

Harry lowered his colours to two different opponents. Jack was our best key position target in his first game in more than 12 months.

Glad I didn't buy in too much over the pre season...not feeling this as keenly as some.

And now we face the harsh reality of an average, ageing squad with compromised drafts on the horizon.

This is another part we miss from the absence of Newman … he would know where to kick to his advantage time and time again

I reckon our best shot at winning next week is if the hawks don't show up, and even then I'm not sure.
I once told my mate we were playing MCG instead of marvel as a joke and he went to MCG… we could possibly do the same with the hawks… I assume they are not as dumb as my mate

I think I'm really off Harry Mckay.

27 years old.
Can't kick a basic set shot.

Only goal he kicked tonight was from 15m in front and he had to kick it around the corner and barely made it anyway.

He's the epitome of what this club represents.

Failure.
This is on the coaching staff. They know he has an issue for the last 3 years and haven't got a specialist goal kicking coach to help. Unbelievable really.

Have heard no one criticise the umps but when Nankervis dug his heel into the ground and kicked his boot off in the first and then pointed at his boot then the ump, allowing time for blokes to get back and the ump didn’t call him out for under 12 shit and call play on, I turned it off. Realise that’s not why we lost but **** me.
Never seen an AFL player try that on.

Nothing surprises me any more with this club. I wasn't even angry after last night's result. I don't know if it's even worth financially supporting this club anymore.

The club is more concerned commercially instead of focusing on winning premierships. 11 years we've broken membership records and the club takes us all for granted. We turn up week in week out and get that rubbish press conference from the coach.

Supporters can't even watch the team train FFS. We might give away our highly secretive game plan.
Thankfully my daughter missed the game due to camp.
Why would I want to put her through this pain?

This performance was the epitome of the last 25 years of this club. Promise a little and fail miserably. Probably the most disappointing side in the league really. It has not been fun supporting this club and I can empathise with other supporters. We're all tired of it.

So what if we beat Hawthorn next week. We still cant trust this group not to embarrass us monumentally at any given time.

Vossy spent another 6 months of the pre-season and we still bomb it long inside 50 but now kick it higher in the air and to no one in particular.

The only improvement i saw was that we have stopped kicking it high down the same wing that we have done for two years. Well done Vossy, put that on your CV. It is the only development I have seen in your time.

I don't think it's a coaching issue.

It's Harry.

How many coaches has he been through? This was a problem long before Voss and his team.

Harry is incapable. He's just genuinely a terrible drop kick. And considering we rely on him, our forward line will always be not good enough.

If we actually beat Hawthorn I’ll be delighted. Will believe it when I see it though.
