Very rarely post as happy to read more in general but had to write something after that totally embarrassing effort
I follow the sentiments of what most have said and at least now I have seen the first game have no illusion other than CFC is just a very poor and ordinary team so if I watch the rest of this season will now have a very low expectation

Why do I need to temper my expectation is I am 5 months post a major cardiac issue i had last year and after watching round 1 this year realise need to maybe learn to switch off the TV or even take a break from watching the Blues play
Not worth me getting me angry and have my blood pressure go up to have another episode

PS Even if we had won this game in the end would have still seemed like a loss so badly did the team play last night

Unfortunately Harry is not a contested mark his main go is in on the lead and if a defense is switched it’s not that hard to shut down. When Charlie comes back H should be further up the ground with Kemp and Charlie closer to goal.
I think you’re right Bs72. A lot of posters saying the delivery to H made it difficult to mark, when his less experienced opponent seemed to position himself better and take the mark. Great full forwards can body opponents out and take marks but this isn’t in Harry’s kit bag.

Running further up the ground providing a marking target and as you say, driving it to Charlie and Kemp who can take contested marks is his go.

Acres is marginal AFL quality and the margin is getting finer.

He's (usually) very good at playing his position. Love how when he does his obligatory OOF they always zoom in on his face afterwards and without fail he has this kind of vacant look on his face with a half smile.

After nearly 24 hours to let it all sink in, I really still can't believe it. That was easily the most pathetic and embarrassing performance from us (and we've had a few) in the last 10 years. Totally unacceptable for a club in our position.

There's no doubt in my mind the players got ahead of themselves and they thought they'd simply turn up and get the 4 points. So when the Tigers brought their energy and pressure we had no answer, we did what we always do: wilt. For me that's partly on the coach but more on the leaders of the club.

But then there's the coaching group. I've been fairly vocal of my belief that Michael Voss, as great as a player as he was, is a terrible coach. He's simply not good enough. He doesn't have the tactical nous to change a game when it's on the line, his team selection and tactics are baffling and his recruitment is laughable.

Let's start with the obvious. Cripps in the ruck? What a waste of a dual Brownlow medalist. Sure, pinch-hit now and again, but amount of ruck contests was absurd. Kemp up forward. Sure it worked once and he's got a good leap but we've replaced him down back with JSOS (who was our most effective forward target) and/or Haynes, whose debut should surely result in weeks in the VFL. Ollie Hollands off of halfback? The bloke has awful disposal, so why?

Then there's just the actual game plan, if you can call it that. It's slow and relies purely on long bombs into the forward 50 to the worst small forward collective in the league. Doesn't help that Harry McKay is the softest tall in the game. Sure the service wasn't great, but Harry is weak. Physically and mentally.

Despite enough evidence, Voss still has a raging hard on for the same players. Cottrell, Haynes, Evans, Motlop, Fantasia (I know he didn't play but I'm pretty sure Voss considers him best 22), even though his like Moir showed a bit last year. Then we have Campo staying on, JSOS not moving forward quicker.

The players aren't blameless though. It's not all on Voss. Their efforts and skill level were embarrassing last night. The same demons we had in front of goal remain. Docherty has a heart and soul player for many years but he's shot. Should never have played on Brisbane last year and was contributed more to Richmond's scoreline than getting us over the line. Then there's the guys that either have come on or have regressed. Sam Walsh and Motlop are the two biggest examples.

To end on a positive, as thin as it is. JSOS' return was extremely positive after a year off. I thought Lord was decent for a guy with limited games. Camporeale showed good effort. TDK while beaten showed why he's a wanted man. Cripps battled hard.

I don't think we'll win against the Hawks but it'll be more about how we lose that sets up the rest of the season for me

Buy a Storm membership as sanity insurance.

Well I've patiently waited 30 years....only to have some 18 yr old with tickets on himself to do backflips across my TV.

I think that's harmless. Let the kid enjoy himself instead of making a negative about it.

It's not like he was taunting the crowd with it hes just celebrating his win. Don't take positive emotions out the game

Vossy. I know sfa. But...

Motlop to half back. Learn how a real small forward plays. Small stints in the middle for impact.

Ollie, back to a wing you know you can own.

Hewett to half forward. Has smarts, can contest and kick goals. Too slow to play him in the same centre bounce as Cripps, but he subs into the midfield to give Cripps a break.

Play Moir. Don't care if he's not quite ready, he has it.

I want Fog into the forward pocket as an attacking weapon, rather than a defensive forward. Mission: to crumb from Harry.

Cerra into the guts as number 2 behind Cripps. He's ready. Never play him at half back again. We need his beautiful hands and silky distribution there. Has learnt two way running now.

Walsh to half back. Has to find the ball and find an opponent. Would excel beating him the other way. Gawd knows we need some straight running out of there, and that's your strength.

Lord. Number 3 in the midfield. Got ragdolled, and didn't dispose well on Thursday, but he looked like he'll thrive in the washing machine that is the modern midfield. Persist.

Number 4 midfielder I am going to say should be Acres. Big, strong unit, with great run. Up and under disposal not so problematic in a scramble forward midfield style that we should use more.

Tdk and Harry need to continue their ruck/forward combo. They are still like gangly colts but back them in people, they can dominate a finals series, assuming we ever get to another....

Docherty has to be in this team for the heart he gives. Let him slot in where and when needed, either on the bench or as sub. He sure wasn't great but he should be better for the run.

Gov. Drop. Payout.

Williams, almost the same. But let's put him in the midfield rotation for now. What have we got to lose?

Cripps mid/forward, only ruck work is taking the odd ruck contest deep forward.

Charlie to a wing. Release the next Brownlow medallist. It's so obvious he's not a natural forward anymore and can use his unique skills where they have space to operate in.

Sosos to full forward. Smartest, toughest, most competitive beast outside Cripps.

Mackay to centre half-back with a licence to roam/ruck.

Readiest biggest guy from the VFL to centre half forward and ask them to crash and bash.

Kemp into the midfield rotation. He's lost both as a forward and a backman. But he has so much talent and I reckon we should take a chance at a completely different look in the centre.

Weiters will thrive with Harry down back.

Let Haynes roam free. Then he can start to gel with his fellow backmen, taking the Gov role. Would go a long way to stabilising the defence.

I thought Cowan was excellent until he lowered his colours chasing a loose ball late. He's a keeper though.

Play Wilson. Desperately need speed.

As someone said earlier. That performance is completely unacceptable. As per usual there will be no great consequence for the players because we can't upset them. We'll drop Frankie Evans as the scapegoat. The playing group are taking the piss but the coaching group are allowing it to happen. Both are equally to blame for that result.

No one can tell me that Sam Walsh is 100% fit. He is a shadow of what he was. He should not have been picked. Use the opportunity to provide experience to someone else. If Harry is fully fit, then he needs to think about whether he should keep wasting his and our time.

Plenty of disappointing performances from a host of others. We're simply not good enough and don't have a list that will be successful in this era, but to turn it up like last night was hard to watch. There appears to be no belief and if that is the case we're stuffed. With Crippa as our captain I can't understand how the playing group cannot be inspired to be at their best most weeks.

Something is broken. What is it?

Thank you Carlton you just took the fun out of any semblance of a year the tigers
Really
my daughters begging me to go back and stick fat
Really !!
I told her I’m not going back couldn’t give a shit about our platinum tickets
I feel sorry for Cripps
Get rid of Voss there’s a reason
He was knocked back by so many clubs
I Hate this club

I feel like our club is scared of failure.

The fear of failure poisons every decision the club makes, and flows right through to the players on the field. You could see in their eyes, they were scared to lose to a young Richmond side, and were paralysed.

Other clubs have accepted failure as an essential part of growth. I don’t think we have.

The dark years have hurt this club so badly, the fear of failure now overrides all, and leads to extremely poor decision making.

Something to ponder.

Yep.

Charlie is much better one on one than Harry. H is quite lean and very tall, doesn’t have those tree trunk legs like a hawkins or Weiters and does go to ground a bit in contests.

Is what it is, use his strengths, he’s a good runner and pretty quick and a great get out mark up the line.

I can understand people criticising players and having doubts but IMO this runs a lot deeper.

What happened to the manic pressure of two years ago? Where is the consistent effort?

Early last night we looked good. We had numbers to the ball and when going inside 50 we looked for options and didn't bomb it. We weren't slipping over or making mistakes. Then we stopped. Why?

As I have said this isn't a one off. We have been trending this way for nearly 12 months. That's the concern

This list when playing well is a finals side. Cripps Curnow McKay TDK Weitering are in their absolute prime. I have no doubt but to lead by over 40 points to a very ordinary side is not acceptable by any standards and highlights major issues within the football department
I agree totally.... but what's the answer to fix it?

Watching Hawks now, and everything we didn't show last night they are showing now.
Speed, Gut Running, Clean Hands, Cool Under Pressure. Because they are getting those things right they are getting open and having good shots at goal..

It’s unquestionably the worst.

Not any point over summer or the lead up did I even contemplate that this could occur. What a moron I am for showing even the slightest bit of belief in this team.

Not any more.

I also think the season is as good as over. Every team will think they can beat us based on last nights performance. Hang in there for long enough and we’ll shit the bed. I sure as hell don’t trust them. I think they’d have to win a dozen games in a row before I’d ever trust them again going into a game.

Nothing surprises me any more with this club. I wasn't even angry after last night's result. I don't know if it's even worth financially supporting this club anymore.

The club is more concerned commercially instead of focusing on winning premierships. 11 years we've broken membership records and the club takes us all for granted. We turn up week in week out and get that rubbish press conference from the coach.

Supporters can't even watch the team train FFS. We might give away our highly secretive game plan.
Thankfully my daughter missed the game due to camp.
Why would I want to put her through this pain?
We are just another version of Essendon or Manchester United. The club milks its large supporter base. Marketing team leverages big names and lofty promises to cash in at the supporters expense.

Meanwhile, Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney etc focus on their football department and on field results.

Same old garbage, different year.

now you know why I didn't renew this year. I've lost trust
I will always renew...it's been 30 years of crap performances but..

It's the club I love...and that's all that matters....

I'm just gutted and disappointed....it's not the first and won't be the last...

But I will ALWAYS renew and love them....
