As I predicted, Keane made the AA 40 man squad. He has really earnt it this year, and has been one of the best defenders in the game.
Won't make the 24 man squad, but deserves his place in the 40. What a bargain get he has been for Adelaide.
Worrell cost us a second rounder, who should make the AA squad, and Keane cost us nothing. Then add Michalanney as a FS, Hinge and Murray as a DFAs, Butts as a Rookie pick, and its been pretty amazing list management to get that together for what it cost us.

Josh Battle is the worst defender on that list.
I think Collins is most lucky tbh and Battle just ridiculous underrated.

Hawks made finals off that back of our defence this year and battle has been the most constant along with bog like 5 times.

Collins has been good but just played his role didn't move the needle for them at all that was left to the suns mids.

Take out Naughton's 'soft' games against bottom 4 sides and how does it look? Georgiades has been great for Port most weeks in a side that's hopeless. Lets not pretend WB aren't getting it forward, they can't defend but they can score.
Georgie has 28 x goals v the top-9 teams in 14 games at average of 2.0. He has 3 x goal assists at 0.21 per game.

Naughton has 22 goals v top-9 teams in 11 games at average of 2.0. He has 6 x goal assist at average of 0.55.

So goal contributions v top-9:

Naughton: 2.55 per game.
Georgie: 2.21 per game.

And whilst Dogs are scoring more, Naughton is also sharing the inside-50 opportunities with Darcy. So Georgie would've been targeted a hell of a lot more than Naughton.

I don't begrudge Georgie's squad selection, just his year wasn't superior to Naughton's on almost any measure.

Goals vs top 8

Naughton 22 Jeremy Cameron 19

Goals vs Bottom 4
Naughton 20 Cameron 34

Should we remove Jezza now only beating up on shit teams?

One was consistent the whole year and won the Coleman. Your supporters wanted Naugton dropped in round 10!

On Battle he hasn't played a bad game all year, been BOG like 5 times as well for a team that made finals. Also one of the main cogs of one of the best defences in the league.

Think he has been really underrated this year along with a few of his peers and he absolutely deserves to be in the squad.

On Wilkie I think he is stiff as well his season sits comfortably along side the key backs that made it: Taylor, Andrews, Battle, Keane, Collins.
Possibly playing in one of the weakest defences in the comp for the season has worked against him.
Something they don't publish but should is the 'reverse Coleman' showing goals conceded. I recall mid-year Wilkie had conceded more goals than almost any other defender, and this probably cost him a selection. We will probably get these numbers this week so it'll be interesting to review.

Wow, that was easier than i expected lol 🎣

Thank you for your contribution.

Curtis and Xerri stiff for North. I don't rate Xerri as high as most but he was clearly in the top handful of rucks this season. I would have had him over Grundy.

It's Gawn's to lose. Jackson next for mine.

Does it even matter though, he's not making the side, it's going to be Cameron/Thilhorpe with Gunston/Elliott in there. It's just a squad selection but he was the only Port player worth a piece of you know what this year, similar sort of selection when Larkey got in just doubt Mitch gets in this year that was a weird as year

Yeah the defenders that defend don't get enough recognition

Was surprised by the Worrell inclusion but it is absolutely justified.

I feel most AA selectors have this weird bias where they wait for a player to back it up with a second AA level season before rewarding them with selection.

Good to see him get rewarded straightaway after a break out season.

Darcy pretty lucky I reckon.
Worrell the worst one on there. Has had a good season but cmon lol..

Worrell will make the side, it's either him or Andrews and the Crows are the MP.

Cameron has 25 goals against top 9 teams, leads all forwards for score involvements, has 54 coaches votes and is a top 3 player for the side that finished 2nd. We probably shouldn't remove him, no.

His best was exceptional, but he had a couple of stretches where he was clearly playing hurt, and throw in the suspension, so I'm not really surprised he missed.

Pressure acts useless stat to show anything.

SI%: Score involvements / Total team scores:

Naughton 25%
Georgiades 30%

If you combined both the Dogs and Port teams this year, Georgiades would only be ranked behind Bont for SI%
Naughton tackles more and put on more pressure than Georgie. Given forward half turnovers are the primary source of scoring for a team, not sure why you'd disregard the pressure applied by a forward as a relevant stat?? I agree it's not the most important, but it's not meaningless in the modern game.

The stat is meaningless because it's the number of pressure acts, not of quality of pressure acts. Happy for people to post pressure acts by quality. You do realise standing on the mark or a half arsed corral are also considered pressure acts?

I think that is outweighed by the fact they won the minor premiership. If he has the same year in the 5th best team maybe they make him 'earn' it with a second elite year.

Well deserved nonetheless
