Because there are many good players at Collingwood but only a select few can win a game off their own boot.
JDG is a big game player and I think the club are not concerned about him playing now (or in the near future), they want him ready for finals.
A good team structure is great but he is the type of player that can win you a final, you dont just let them go, as they are way too hard to find.
I don't think there's any players that can win a game off their own boot. Victory requires a team effort and Jordy hasn't been part of the team in any consistency since 2023. If we want a sustained period of success then we need Rowell not jordy.

Trading Jordy would be foolish.

He’s been paid well, has lots of interests outside of football and has been regularly injured for a fair while. And never seemed the type to relish pre-seasons and training (could be wrong).

It’s always been my personal guess that he would retire earlyish. I could see him being done at 31 or whenever his contract finishes.

Granted, we are probably hoping to be challenging for that time period… if we can get Rowell without losing Jordy, sure. If it came to it, Rowell is an upgrade now and in the long term.

Is there any word that he's even part of the deal?. I want to keep Jordy but you can't knock back the potential of having Rowell and Nick together for the next 10 years. This will end up like lockett and quinlan all over again if we choose Jordy over Rowell.

We would be trading Jordy at his lowest value. Bad business.

Back the club to get his fitness right so that he can play at his highest capacity.

His value is never going to go up again, let’s be real.

If we can get him fit, he’s worth more than what his value would contribute to a trade, yes. That’s still an if.

If that was the only way to land Rowell, you do it.

To me, his value to the club over the next two years is too high to consider trading him.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jordy isn't even part of the deal. I reckon we'll keep him and already have other options to get Rowell

Are you saying you prefer a Rowell to a fit and firing Jordy?

For the long term it's Rowell but for the short term it's Jordy. I think the whole football world would pick Rowell over jordy, so yes, I'm with the masses

Putting aside age - in a head to battle and assessing total impact in a game, I think a fit and firing Jordy wins. I doubt Rowell could cover him. Conversely a fit Jordy could cover Rowell.
Jordy has a bigger body and positional more versatile.
So I don’t see Rowell as a net gain to the team if Jordy leaves.

One day the journo’s are saying - Pies are very confident of getting Ben King.
A few days later it is Rowell. They are making sh!t up I think for the clicks.
Both will probably be at GC next year & beyond.

Is there any evidence Jordy will ever return to playing full seasons again? Not sure Rowell is the answer but we would be stupid not to consider options if someone is willing to pay big bucks to get him (St Kilda, looking at you).

The thing is, I doubt anyone would be. So probably best to see what we can get out of him at this late stage of his career. He is a proven match-winner even if he can't get on the field much.

any chance our big fish is JUH?
like, we said to him, get on the park and show you are serious and we will trade for you at end of year?

I don't necessarily disagree with anything you said (although I worry about De Goey's reliability, which might be at an all-time low), but Rowell is better at most things on the park, younger, and has been incredibly healthy for the past few seasons whilst steadily improving.

De Goey would have to have a huge end of the season to be interesting for Gold Coast, if he even wanted to go there.

Because he’s unable to have objective opinions on players he’s emotionally attached to.

Putting aside age, Peter Daicos is a better option than Rowell.

I’d be willing to accept that given Jordy’s output over the past 2 years.

I would too.

If it lands Rowell, we obviously have a future starting midfield trio of Nick, Long, Rowell. I won't list the rest of our mids and players who can run through there and can play on the wing... We all know who they are.

But Long as pure inside mid with massive pressure and tackling capabilities, Rowell as an inside/outside who can almost win contested footy at will. That's a nice combo to allow Nick to work on predominantly as first receiver or to run to dangerous positions ahead of the ball.

Butters could also be that inside/outside player but I'd hardly kick either of them out of bed for farting and I'd make peace with losing Jordy to help make it happen.

Treloar finishes this year but we are still paying Grundy. De Goey is worth more to us than another team. Gold Coast have a plethora of mids, they will be targeting a reliable KPF and a key defender.

Apart from pace what other aspects of the game is Rowell better than Jordy?
