Multiple club sources have confirmed Hawthorn, Richmond, Essendon and Collingwood are all preparing to make serious plays for the 24-year-old, who grew up in Bacchus Marsh and played under-18 football for the Western Jets.

Knowledgeable sources at Port Adelaide, who were not able to speak publicly about the matter, said the club was confident of retaining him. While Port is adamant it has ample salary cap space to afford to offer him a significantly increased pay packet, Butters – a two time All Australian – is open to exploring a trade at the end of this season, 12 months before he will become a restricted free agent.

From what I heard, its 3 months just to get back to training. That doesn't incude when he is ready to play, so it'll be interesting.
I would think we wouldn't put him on LT1 unless we had to.

Yep.

I get the idea with Tomlinson as he’s ready to go but the flip side is he’s 31 and never been fully good enough.

If we think McCartin or someone else at 24-26 can be ready to go and can give us 5 years then that’s a better option.

Zero chance on Butters we’re just there to create a bidding war. We don’t have the trade capital to be a serious player and Richmond are more likely to win it all this year than Port wanting to deal Butters to us after the Houston trade.

My thoughts exactly. Not to mention port prob still feel burnt from the Houston trade. Picks in the teens aren’t going to cut it for butters. After the Houston and Luko trade port will play extreme hardball if he says he wants out otherwise their supporters will burn the place down
