Notice how Geelong are not mentioned with butters… they only get involved when out of contract
Is there bad blood between us and port for that trade though? I mean we ended up giving pretty much everything we could, if Port had to be angry at a club for dicking them in that trade it should be GC for wrenching their 2025 first away for Luko (looking worse and worse by the day that portion is)Zero chance on Butters we’re just there to create a bidding war. We don’t have the trade capital to be a serious player and Richmond are more likely to win it all this year than Port wanting to deal Butters to us after the Houston trade.

I wouldn’t use the term bad blood myself, but do you see a scenario where Port are prepared to take pretty much everything we can give two years running on their two best players? I think if it weren’t for the circumstances of Hinkley departing, the curiosity of Noble/ Richards tied in and the absolute power of managers these days there was no chance the Houston deal gets done and even less with Butters. I’d love to be wrong of course because he’s a transformational guy I just don’t see it.Is there bad blood between us and port for that trade though? It's a no brainer if they think that they're the same standard and MCartin has a future. Big if.McCartin over Tomlinson is a no brainer. Much younger.
I don't think this is trueAnd yet people everywhere complain about is giving up a first for Shoota. I wonder who is better value.![]()
Is he as good / better? Think that matters moreMcCartin over Tomlinson is a no brainer. Much younger.
I don’t see them letting Butters go under any circumstances unless he gives them an ultimatum of this year or next as FA and the deal offered is beyond exceptional. So it’s less about them dealing with us than dealing with anyone at all tbh, which I think we’re probably on the same page about. I certainly can’t see us having the currency they’d be asking unless there was a very good player coming back their way, and I don’t think we’d have anyone that they’d want who fits the right age profile for a trade like that either.I wouldn’t use the term bad blood myself, but do you see a scenario where Port are prepared to take pretty much everything we can give two years running on their two best players? I could see them trading him if they received 2 good first rounders, if they don't get that I reckon they'll hold onto him.I don’t see them letting Butters go under any circumstances unless he gives them an ultimatum of this year or next as FA and the deal offered is beyond exceptional. From the Hun:
Collingwood is prepared to hand Brayden Maynard a four-year deal on excellent money but at this stage is baulking at offering the premiership defender a five-year deal.
The Roos confirmed on Sunday they had some interest in a tough backline player like Maynard but football boss Todd Viney said they had not offered him a six-year deal yet.
Their offer is likely to be more financially lucrative than the Roos offer, but it remains to be seen if he would leave for only one more season of guaranteed money.
A four-year deal would see him playing on those terms until 32 given he turns 29 in September, and he could conceivably strike another deal after that contract expires.
What he has to weigh up is how much remaining a one-club Pie will be worth to him across his entire life given the sponsorship and marketing opportunities that come with remaining affiliated with the AFL power club.
6 year deal at his age is just moronic from North. I get they want some experience into the team but trying to pry and heart and soul player out of another club doesn't mean his heart is going to be in it for them4 should be long enough maybe they can put in Triggers for a 5th and maybe even for 4th Season so we are Safe Guarded a Bit IF the Worse Happens

Excellent money is a pretty loose term. More lucrative would be staying at the Pies and being a one club legend with future prospects much better than ending at Norf a nobodyGet worried when I hear we are offering Maynard:
- "excellent" money
- A more lucrative deal than North
April Fools?

He pisses his pants with excitement and the slightest whiff of composing a negative spin on any Pies situationI think this another example of John Ralph clutching at straws again.
Yeah that bit made no sense. How would North pry him out by offering less money?Get worried when I hear we are offering Maynard:

Like a few days ago when he was suggesting we’d need to trade in pick 11 to match McGuane at pick 10.I think this another example of John Ralph clutching at straws again.

I'd bet on him extending. Same with Rowell and LDU. I could see them dealing him to Essendon if they offer both of their 1st’s and Hawthorn if they can get the second part of the deal right and Carlton continues to struggle. Port are going to be bottom 6 or thereabouts this year and I think there’ll be some urgency in refreshing the list so if he wants out I think he’ll be gone.I don’t see them letting Butters go under any circumstances unless he gives them an ultimatum of this year or next as FA and the deal offered is beyond exceptional.
