We also saw with Grundy that overpaying a ruckman can be seriously detrimental to your cap, especially if they don’t perform to expectations. For that kind of money TDK would want to be the best ruck in the comp for near on the next decade or it will end in tears. The kid is good, but I doubt he’s ever going to be Max Gawn good.
If he wasn’t at Carlton he’d be a lock for AA in 2025 (they don’t know how to use him) and whilst I don’t think he needs to be that good to justify the money I agree it’s a risk because unlike Gawn he does it with his athleticism Ala Nic Nat who fell off a cliff following his knee injuries.

The only reason that they’re talking up Butters leaving is that he was very close with Ken. If Port lose Butters and Bergman they will be in St Kilda territory for the next decade, they will have two stars in JHF and Rozee, a bunch of solid players and players that wouldn’t get a game at any other club
Then we’ll take JHF

What is the likelihood of a Darcy Cameron to West Coast trade and what would they have to give up in return? - via Matthew on Facebook

TM: I think they would have to give up a fair bit to get him. I know that there is a lot of talk around Darcy Cameron going, but people need to remember that he is contracted for 2026 and Collingwood is in the premiership window.

So if Collingwood is going to allow a contracted ruck who finished second in last year's best and fairest to walk, they're going to have to know they can get a ruck from somewhere else.

It's not as simple as if Cameron wants to go, he'll go. I still think he'll stay and I do know that Collingwood is trying to extend him and give him the money that he deserves because there is broad acknowledgment from both the club and his management that he's not being paid what he is worth at the moment because he signed a deal when he was the second banana.

The only way we should trade Cameron to the Eagles is if it is part of a deal that lands us Harley Reid .
What if it instead unlocked a trade for Rowell or Butters? Or freed up the cap space needed to entice Bont over for free, seeing as he’s an UFA? Those seem like nice outcomes.

Can Harley ruck?

The only way we should trade DC is if Steene or Smit are ready to step up or we have another first ruck already lined up.

Exactly. Not much point having a good midfield if you don't have a ruckman.

Collingwood has told its collection of plus-30 premiership stars it will need at least another month to consider future contracts as they continue to put in brilliant auditions to extend their careers.
Pies list boss Justin Leppitsch is aware most of his senior veterans would like to play on into 2026 and also have the early-season form to do so.

Jamie Elliott (five goals against Fremantle), Steele Sidebottom (Anzac Day Medal) and Jeremy Howe (superb against Adelaide) have all put in spectacular recent matchwinning performances to show their potency has not diminished.

Scott Pendlebury’s last seven weeks have been exceptional, while Brody Mihocek was sidelined with an abdominal sprain but at 32 is also determined to play on.

Mason Cox, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Tom Mitchell (returning from foot issues through the VFL) are also in the over-30s bracket while Tim Membrey and Jack Crisp have deals for next season.

Collingwood is unable to give contract certainty to its stars, even though ex-captain Scott Pendlebury seems certain to play on and Elliott has 23.15 in a cracking start to the season.

The juggling act also means as soon as the Pies start contract talks with one of those plus-30s the other players will be keen to resume discussions.

So the club will work through its priorities at list management over the next six weeks before giving more clarity on the futures of those players.

Free agent Brayden Maynard is now likely to sign a four-year deal, with coach Craig McRae said to be very keen to keep the vice-captain given his cultural impact at the club.

Mihocek is keen to play on after returning against Adelaide from that stomach sprain and as a late starter to the AFL has never secured that bumper deal to set him up for life.

His only priority is re-signing with the Pies, but if the season plays out and it becomes apparent Collingwood wants to transition its list rivals might consider if it can poach one or two of those ageing stars for a year or two.

Some words of wisdom from Kane Cornes. Says we don’t have any first round picks so need to source players from other clubs who are on mid tier salaries that don’t cost a lot in trade. ( He forgot to mention we haven’t had any first round picks because we traded them for good players)

Oh by the way Kane, it’s a good idea. Somebody should have thought about that before. By the way Hill Houston Perryman Shultz Lipinski mitchell mcStay frampton crisp Cameron Howe Markov Hoskin-Elliott and Long say hi.

Edit . Forgot Membrey

So he has no clue about our f/s & academy options this year?

Yes. But the worst thing about Lambys was ‘The Real Diamond’ show. The music was bad enough, but when he had a break he played Neil Diamond…

Of all my years of going there, I can’t remember picking up once.
Used to share a house with the guy who was Real Diamond
Made an absolute killing out of it and would sell out Crown

Just re-sign Cameron. Much simpler and better for our team.

Why are our threads being bombarded with trolls lately?

Turning 30, if he wants to leave might as well get something for him, to help the future of team. Who knows maybe Zac McCarthy will develop quickly once we draft him and he can ruck for us.

Wouldn't mind going after Max Ramsden from Hawks.

He's signed until the end of 26 and at his peak.

He's also been in negotiations to extend with us beyond 26.

Doesn't sound like someone wanting to leave. Wouldn't take any notice of what Scott Cummings says.

I love Cameron he's been huge.

But it depends if he wants to go home, if he does then it changes things. Wouldn't be too bad if we win the flag.

Get say pick 10 for him (eg.) and then someone like Riley O'Brien as a free agent. Use 10 for someone else or draft, it's not the end of the world.

Only if Cameron wants to leave. I'd be all over that. The sticking point is that although we gain Harley, we're going to have to get a decent ruckman as well and that won't be easy. As for Harley Reid, we would stupid not to take him as part of the deal. I don't care what anyone says, to me he'll be the second best player in the comp behind Nick.
