I love Cameron he's been huge.

But it depends if he wants to go home, if he does then it changes things. Wouldn't be too bad if we win the flag.

Get say pick 10 for him (eg.) and then someone like Riley O'Brien as a free agent. Use 10 for someone else or draft, it's not the end of the world.
If DC wants to go home, then he will have to wait until end of next year. Can't see us letting him go while under contract.
Anyway, hopefully he loves Melbourne and wants to re-sign, with a good pay upgrade.

History suggests we don’t retain blokes once they indicate they’d rather be elsewhere.

Should be going hard after Aleer. He's quality

I like him too. Problem is he's likely to have quite a few suitors which might inflate his trade value somewhat. Given our FS and likely NGA commitments, not sure if we'll have what's needed to get him across the line.

But who knows, we have those re-signings to take care of too, as well as the form of our potential draftees for the rest of the year, before we'll know what kind of hand we'll take to the trade table. Too many variables at play right now to be able to predict much.

Such a shame to see these talented young footballers potentially throwing their careers away by jumping into the ravenous pit of Kilda.😄

Still, I'd go too for the kind of money they're throwing around.

You know you're bad when even in these difficult times, players would rather not take a heap of cash from St.kilda

Only if Cameron wants to leave. I'd be all over that. The sticking point is that although we gain Harley, we're going to have to get a decent ruckman as well and that won't be easy. As for Harley Reid, we would stupid not to take him as part of the deal. I don't care what anyone says, to me he'll be the second best player in the comp behind Nick.
Even if Reid does request a trade the Eagles will demand an absurd price for him that isn’t even close to reflecting his current output. I’d rather try to get a deal that involves getting Rowell + Moyle if Cameron leaves.

100%

There will be plenty of players with better value out there than Harley.

Say he was the number 6 pick in his draft year rather than number one, there would be a radical reassessment of his trade value. The overvaluing of draft picks over actual senior output lives on.

It’s interesting isn’t it?
How many goals did pick 6 Jayden Stephenson kick in his debut year? Had all cap matters been under control, what would have been his trade value?

I think Darcy Cameron will end up going home, and we will use it to acquire one of blue chip pieces for the midfield. Just has the feel about it, but not this year, end of next year. Unless he requests it this year, then all bets are off, Butters, Rowell and Reid then move into the equation. Imagine either one of those which then allows Nick to go back to an outside mid, rather than the inside role he is playing now. Either way, players are going to want to come and play along side Nick, and I think Rowell is seriously considering it.

And then the next issue is a ruckman, and I like the earlier suggestion about finding a rough diamond like we did with Darcy, there are quite a few serviceable ruckman around who can't get game time. And if you got another clearance beast, you only need a ruck to compete and get it to ground and let the mids do their thing.

I don’t. I just don’t see any player moving from a premiership contending team to the shit show that is WC. It’s career suicide.

If we only want to offer 3x700K vs WCE offering say 4x875K and the chance to move home, he may have to think about it.

I am really on the fence with this as I expect us to do our best to contend again next year, but letting Cameron go while his value is high and our list needs a bit of regeneration might end up a win-win.

Really depends on what our options are in terms of a replacement and what we can do with the currency Camo nets us.

Let’s say we got Rowell + Moyle in return? Or Reid and then ROB as a FA?

How does Cameron = Rowell and Moyle? Rowell is two very low picks at minimum by himself. Then add the F/s and academy players we are linked to.

Interesting..
It may seem fanciful but Rowell is uncontracted and Cameron is contracted.

If Rowell nominated us and we offered what would probably be a pretty fair return there, I think they’d speak to us. Throw in some other pick swapping as needed.

Moyle won’t really be worth anything to them with their ruck stocks and list spots at a premium, so if he could be steak knives in a deal they wanted to do, they’d throw him in.

Trading for anyone big will be difficult given we need to keep as many picks as possible for our tied prospects.

I’m really positive with the state of the list and, from the grapevine (for whatever that’s worth) the players we’re targeting
  • NGAs + FS provide an excellent mix
  • bring in FAs like King to compliment our young KPP options
  • bring in via FA or trade in a Butters or Rowell for onfield leadership / extraction / support for Nick and our young mids
  • Some Cat B gems
I think we’re well placed
