I think the most vulnerable veteran is Cox.
His form is really not worthy of going around….
Especially if the club has confidence in Steene to push Cameron as the back up or if we even decide to bring someone else in during the off season too
WHE looks cooked as well god love him

"Looks cooked" is probably a bit harsh - He's not at the point where he's a liability. His production is down and it's not hard to imagine another younger player being able to come in and produce what he has been.

However, that's not the only factor in his selection - Maybe we could bring in a younger guy who can find it more, or kick more goals, but will they do it while playing a disciplined team first role in the way that Hoskin-Elliott does?

Maybe that's a role for the mid-season draftee, Roan Steele?

I think he’s just plain cooked. He just doesn't go where the ball is and is quite fumbly. A handy depth player these days

I like Hayes for the job. Doesn’t yet do the defensive half but matches WHE for a lot of the other elements. Question is, does he have the tank to fully develop that length of the ground running. Time will tell.

TJ would be another.

Why would you put him before out younger players that have been training with the team since February and know the system.
It would be a bit harsh for them to have someone just walk in and get into the senior side straight away.

Agreed and one of the best things about Will is his endurance, so I don't think that will be a worry.

Yes, 38 isn't that old these days, it's just multiple years older than every player in the AFL currently (aside from Pendlebury), and only 4 players since the turn of the century have played a game at the age of 38 - Other than those minor issues, pretty much everyone is playing when they're 38.
Jeremy Howe is currently in career best form.

Age is just a number especially when they look after their bodies so well these days.

Tasmania will have a lot of 18 year old players and no experience to help them. One thinks a former Tassie boy coming home would be a great get for the new Club to help guide the young ones.

Because he's 23 years old and has played way more state league footy than any of them, and was specifically drafted because he's good, he's ready to play, and he fits our system.

Many of our mature age MSD draftees have come into the side fairly soon after being drafted - John Noble played 5 games (including two finals) in the season we drafted him, Ned Long played 7 after getting picked up last year, Josh Carmichael played 7 games the year he was drafted.

Wil Parker played 5 games last year, debuting before before a number of listed players, despite not only joining the club well after pre-season, but having only played 5 VFL games, his only organised games of footy in years. I would've thought that would've been much more "harsh", and it still happened.

I'm not sticking 19 year old Noah Howes in the side ahead of Brody Mihocek - I'm saying 23 year old Roan Steele, who had 24 disposals and a number of intercept marks from hard defensive running and good anticipation, would be suitable to fill a role similar to the one that Will Hoskin-Elliott plays if his form remains good for the next few weeks.

TJ has plantar fasciitis at the moment, so he will need to get a run of form before he can be considered. Hayes is a reasonable candidate but at his size, he'll likely never offer much in terms of overhead marking, so he'd be a very different option to fill that role.

I’m with you on Ryan. Hope he makes it just as I hope all our players do. Just can’t see what his AFL relevant weapons are. Seems a little vanilla.
He intercepts, is a good size at 190cms, elite endurance, good pace and kicks well on both sides.
Plenty to work with and just needs the opportunity to prove himself.

Damn what is it with our players and plantar fasciitis this year, Nick has had it, Bruzzy, Titch and now TJ

Last year we had an horrendous injury list.
I'm sure Roan will get matches before year's end but I doubt it will be before he gets more VFL games under his belt and more training and learning the system.

Hes a bit in between TD. Not a good enough forward or ruck. Can take a grab, but he needs more string to his bow than that. He’s getting well beaten in the ruck. Size is an issue. Might rookie for 1 more season given our lack of depth there.
Think he shows a Bit as a Forward/Ruck

Needs probably more time as a Forward

Rucks can take to there mid 20s to come good

Smit does not really a Postion at the Moment as down back been poor

That dam NMBB has me googling if it's "an horrendous " or a horrendous ". The joy's of being retired and bored

You keep hearing Ryan is an 'interceptor' but is he really when it happens a couple of times every other game. He should earn that reputation when he does it often on a regular basis.

These days 38 isn't that old assuming no serious injuries. Especially as the Tassie team will be full of kids and no leadership. Perfect for Howie even if he loses half a step.

He wants to set himself up for life as an assistant coach in his home state. They have put out some feelers.
Not really sure where you're getting your info, but I am from southern Tassie and am close with senior people in football here and can guarantee you I have slightly more knowledge about this than you do.

At the very best, Howe would consider playing in the Devils VFL side while being an assistant coach. Zero chance he will be playing as an AFL player for the Devils.

He's not a KPD though. When he needs to intercept, he's more than capable. He's having a very good year

We will see. I am not sure you want 6 eighteen-year-olds running around in your backline. As I said Jeremy Howe is currently in career best form. And he is taking it year by year, but he has a long-term plan. Never say Never.

You can assume, you can't guarantee.
