Is there a future there with Steene? It’s very much up in the air because he’s extremely long odds to ever be our number 1 ruck (especially once we bring in an mature ager to replace Cox post 2025) with Cameron likely to extend this year or next for at least a further 3 years, King on our radar, McCarthy due at years end and maybe Condon. The point being while we’re in the middle of a premiership run why are we giving senior minutes to a guy more likely to be off the list than number 1 ruck before we start your rebuild in 2027?

I’m also confident we won’t be rebuilding by 2027. At a guess there’ll be 3-4 new faces from other clubs in the best 23 to replace the likes of Steele, Pendles, Elliott, Mihocek and Howe along with draftees that are more likely than Steene (at this time) just as Hill, McStay, Lipinski, Membrey, Houston and Perryman replaced others.

Well run clubs, which we are, understand how to replenish as they go so long as they find a star along the way (which Richmond failed to do). The best way to go about building towards a rebuild is by gifting games to guys that aren’t there.

I think Oscar will end up surprising you, not necessarily as 1st ruck.
Zac McCarthy won't be 18 until October, I doubt he will be rucking in the seniors for a year or three.
If DC does decides he wants to leave then finding a replacement might not be so easy.
I hope he decides to stay with us for the rest of his career.
Anyway, we won't know what Oscar can do unless he is given a chance to show us.

The other bizarre piece about Durr Ralphs article - of course the bulldogs are going to say that? He's possibly their greatest ever player and the captain of their club - anyone from rival clubs, journo's, fans etc are going to receive the same response. Even when a club knows a bloke is out the door - they all jostle and act as if nots happening.

I'm not saying we are getting the Bont (I think it is extremely unlikely he leaves) - but even if Marcus had stormed in to the office, demanded he's leaving and ceremoniously burnt his number 4 jersey - that would all be hidden and kept in the back room until the very end of the season anyway, and we'd cop the below response until that moment in time:

I would be happy with King to replace an ageing Mihocek. But he is a clearly limited player. Among KPFs who have played regular senior footy this year he is near the bottom in marks and disposals. It's okay to admit you were wrong

No my sharp counterpoint is if he's at Collingwood he might be asked or coached up to play differently from what he's asked to do at GC. It's your genius contention that all teams play exactly the same way or that players can't improve their games which everyone with half a brain knows isn't true, outsmarted yourself again.

Then why didn't you say that? King as it stands doesn't get up the ground very much, and wins almost no footy outside of scoring positions.
