I have a feeling the big fish is king for next year. Wouldn't mind one this year though
Don’t have the Currency to get anyone big this Off-Season

Thanks for bringing some sense to it because everything up to your post in this discussion line was a struggle for about 5 pages (especially Spinny’s walls of absolute nonsense).

There seems two schools of thought to me here, emotional and unemotional. Both clearly have there place in the soup of a discussion like this because in JDG you not only have a premiership player, but a premiership hero the flip side of which is a premiership hero that’s done two fifths of stuff all since that day (which is now 45 weeks of footy ago). For me the discussion very simply boils down to what the + is because Rowell is now a much better footballer and will be for the remainder of their careers. He’s a locked and loaded 25ppg, 6-8cl, 12cp and 8t guy which we don’t currently have whereas JDG gives us those numbers “at his best” which lord knows when we’ll see it again.

I don’t think the hope of seeing JDG fit and firing again is remotely enough to justify not discussing him being involved in a trade for Rowell and as per the original pontificating if the club floats JDG that’s your answer on where he v Rowell is at.

The third school of thought is that a very good disciplined team might gain more from adding in a less reliable game breaker than adding in another really good disciplined consistent player.

In the short term, whilst we're in a premiership I'd prefer a fit Jordy for us than a fit Rowell. Long term, it's Rowell very easily - he's just got so much more footy in front of him and with a couple of retirements we'll need to add a couple of really good reliable mids into our rotation.

Otherwise known as the unemotional thought process…

I think many would agree with the bolded. The dilemma would be whether he’s the next Hannebery or Howe?

Sniff around the peripherals.
There will be players who aren’t getting regular game time at clubs that we might see value in.

Other than that there’s no big fish left this season….

Fortunately we have academy based players in the draft

Nick and Rowell are no chance. Butters? No idea, but maybe? He likes playing on the edge.
Butters has the crazy eyes going occasionally. Is he to Port Adelaide as Luke Ball was to St Kilda and Collingwood?

You said exactly the same thing last year. If we want someone we’ll find a way to get it done.

Can West become just as structurally significant? And if so how soon?
The first one’s the key because with his body shape and the way he play’s whatever he’s going to be I think he gets there reasonably quickly for a KPF. I’m just not prepared to back in whether he can do what Morris has as early as year 2.
we will get someone this year
You can be certain one will be a ruckman aged from 24-30.

I think last year was one of those rare year where everything connected. Multiple players wanted to get to the same clubs. It all fell into place.
A situation like that wouldnt happen very often.
Plus we had no academy players last year to deal with needing points. A little bit more difficult this year.

Particularly as you can now trade two years of future firsts - and it's GC who we'd be trading with and their trade currency is players or future picks. No real interest in gaining current firsts, as they have them already and can't draft with them, outside of matching points. Might struggle to get a deal done to trade in that sort of quality from other clubs - unless you did it through a club like GC.

Mids mids mids mids
Mids mids mids mids

…and a KPD
A back up ruck and quality of any variety in my opinion.

I don't think any best 22 position is urgent.

Josh looks ready to slot into the midfield as a top liner when Sidey and Pendles go - if we don't add a top line mid.

Reef will add to our KPD depth next year and might develop into a good player

Sir, what did Reef ever do to you? Your lack of respect is astounding. What gives you the -

Oh? What’s that? We’ve moved on from McInnes and now Ned Long is the guy we’re not allowed to question? Got it.
The way I see it is that potshots not being allowed is the default, but there's some you can have a swing it.

Senior players: Lippa, WHE and Moore. There's a few gatekeepers but enough others take a swing that you can get away with it.

Fringe players: Sully - go for your life;no one cares. I've been trying to get some traction going on Allan but he's very protected - I'm going to keep working it as I think it'll swing.

Reserves - AJ, Finn - used not to be allowed but he's free game now, HDM, Ryan, Dean.

Hands off the rest.

Things can change quickly though - Shoota and Frampton have gone from being free game but have become protected

Rowell will be (will happen) renting his Kew house out for at least a year at this stage, not sure if that means much but thought be good to share.

* Sorry just saw Rowell signed on for another 2 years at Suns, good touch that he let Fly & Bevo know by phone call he is staying at GCS, at least we know his clubs preferences now.

See ya in 2 years at the Pies
