Silvagni is undersized as a KPD as well like Howe, but without the athleticism so fits in that NQR hybrid defender category.

We aren’t talking pure key defence. It’s that Mihocek/ West size that’s undersized in a key role and all of them fit into that category.

The comparison with Doedee was about his FA status and playing style (both slow undersized KPD’s) nothing to do with his knees.

We don’t know yet, but how good is Silvagni’s aerial game really? It’s definitely not to the standard of Howe’s.

Ultimately I’m not anti a move on Silvagni what I am anti is the carryon like he’s Bruce bloody Doull and it just screams Levi Greenwood to me where a guy cashed in on a career year. Before we all get hysterical I’m not referencing you three with those comments rather the collective who only a week ago barely registered Silvagni as an option and here we are…
I don't think most people are expecting his old man. He's a free hit in a position of need. His aerial game is really solid and 1 on 1 He's elite. I've been suggesting him most of the year. We aren't in a position to pry a gun KPD and Silvagni, like many of our other recruits, isn't top shelf but is certainly good enough to bolster our defence

He's a comparable size to guys like Buckley, Wilkie, Keane and Battle, which seems to be fairly ideal for the third tall defender role - not sure NQR hybrid defender is close to a fair description. He uses his body well and has great hands

the only thing apprehension I have about getting jsos is the length of the contract. I can understand 4 years, but not 5 years full guaranteed.
Unless it is a 4+1 where he gets an additional year if he hits certain targets in the 4th year.

If you’re looking for a player up to the standard of arguably the greatest aerialist of all time I think you’re going to be disappointed regardless of who ends up replacing Howe.

I really liked his kicking this year. He was the only one on their team who could hit corridor kicks.

I’m very much into his recruitment because:

1. He only moved to defence this year and was tracking in AA conversations until injured, suggesting untapped upside.

2. List management. Howe will need to be replaced soon and perhaps this year. it’s a golden opportunity to fill that void for zero trade cost and on a modest salary. He’s not going to be Howe nor is anyone else, but it’s a crucial position filled which is pivotal for our regen on the run.

It’s just such a no brainer I struggle to empathise with those against it.

I bet anything he’ll be up in the box with Peter having the time of his life. He hates Carlton as much as we do now.
There is no doubt he has issues with Carlton but not sure that translates to not hating Collingwood.

Had a chat to him in 2023 and he said he hated to admit it but he loved watching Collingwood play. I said so you would be happy to see a Pie flag? His reply. "Come Sept I will hate Collingwood as.much as I ever do".

I did ask Jo the same year about Jack coming to the Pies. At that time she said she would be very happy. Happy esp to get him away from Voss cause as she said. "He cant coach". That was shortly after Jack had been dropped. She reckoned it should have never happened and in retrospect she was right.

You know i am really surprised sos didn’t offer Jsos a contract to play at st kilda.

If he finished up at Blues due to conflict of interest being the list manager at a club his son plays for.. probably not wise to get yourself in the same position again.

Won't be surprised if Silvagni stays with Blues. Wright will convince him and the Carlton heritage does count.

Howe is likely playing another season regardless of the outcome of this season. I truly believe Reef was moved back there to be mentored as Howe replacement but he is out all year and likely first few round next year. I say that because Howe is the aerial type defender and right now IQ is the closest young guy to Howe aerial wise... but Reef is closer in size and also has the body and athleticism. Frampton is the good rotation defender that comes in and out depending on matchups.

I think we both know that’s not what I meant. What I’m referring to in regards to his aerial capacity is that the way our defensive group is structured it requires someone with good athleticism to be the binder.

That’s not Silvagni he’s not closing down space by sagging off an opponent and buffering the likes of Moore and Frampton. He’ll bring good craft to shut away a 2nd or 3rd tall, but I’m not convinced that adds to our mix (a bit like how the Hawthorn additions haven’t improved them). Of the guys that gouki88 named though Wilkie is the one that stands out as being capable of both locking one away and sagging off with an average athletic profile. The others though make up for a lack of size with greater athleticism than Silvagni…

I’m not really seeing a lack of athleticism in JSOS in these highlights, I think you’re grossly underestimating him on that metric.

Wright seems to be the one putting his stamp on early. It’s been reported multiple Carlton players have had meetings with Wright to see what’s happening. Has he told players like Jack to look what’s out there with a few weeks to go? Footy is more business these days.

Agree mostly with this
Only concern for me is his injury history and particularly the groin injury this year

Because his choice is down to only two options. Either to stay at the Blosers or sign with us. He isn't looking at other options.
Plus the Saints look to be having Aleek Aleer joining them next season...

The only player who I thought could one day take over form Howe down back (before he left) was Ollie Henry.
I think he would make a good back man if swung down there, and who knows, we may get him back one day.
