I would say the opposite

If we win, go chips-in again and just add who we can

If we don’t, maybe it’s time to re-set the list and take a few years to draft and bring through youth
yeah but we are keeping Steele, Pendles and the older players one more year, so they are chips in anyway. If we flag, Cox, Mitchell WHE will be gone, we can then delist a couple and be more aggressive. If we don't flag we may need to keep WHE

Are we offering Silvagni 700k? That's a horrible deal.

Mihocek is heart and soul. It won't be good if we lose him. Whatever the machinations are.
Not sure why you’ve translated “under $700k” as $700k. Regardless, in the new CBA $650-700k is barely above average, so no idea why you’d regard it as horrible unless your mind is stuck in 2022.

Any deal Checkers is offered will have absolutely 0 to do with Silvagni or salary cap issues. Purely on his age and probability of bringing in a younger key tall like Ben King in 2026. Our cap is in a good place right now.

You have to think the ACL to O’Farrell (poor kid) will change things a little

Suspect Blues will significantly up the offer to Jack now
Bridges have been officially burned there going by Voss’ comments. It may help him secure a better deal elsewhere, but his time at Carlton is up.

It we don't win, it depends how to me. If we get blown away due to pace through the midfield - it'll be time to move past the slowies.

Not sure the relationship can be salvaged from the reporting

What were Voss' comments?

Seems Collingwoods interest has clearly jogged the interest of other clubs too. Nothing unusual, following in our shadow. They should think of something original lol

Don't know who to trust less, Edmund or Ralph

But to be fair, Ralph's comments on Pies veterans being upset about our pursuit of Silvagni sounded like some of the dumbest, supporter driven reporting I've heard possibly ever

Paraphrasing, but he wouldn’t talk about it publicly if he were in that spot, you need to think about the person and what it means for Silvagni’s place in the locker room. From everything I’ve read the relationship there is fractured and Voss was speaking plainly about how difficult it’ll be to come back if he’s still in charge.

I must admit l didn't like how Fly was very open about SOS. Due to the fact we have some absolute champions of the club a little disappointed at the contracts presented to them by the club, l was squirming a bit by those comments....
I understand from our players contract point of views but I’d hope they also understand the club needs to address any team deficiencies we have so we can keep contending.

Don't Trust any 100%

The only quotes I have read from Voss sound the exact opposite to what you are suggesting -

Jack’s had a really important role shift this year," he said. "It’s been a real win for us to see where he’s gone from forward to back.

"I want to be really clear, he’s a very important player for us.

"We value what he’s done, we value him at the football club and we’re certainly hoping he plays out the rest of his career with us.”

I read it as Voss was critical only of McRae, not to mention pretty weird.

“Regardless of what Craig did, it’s not something we would do, and we’ll respect the privacy of the player."

I think he was referring to McRae saying he had met Silvagni, not the meeting itself. Which is a very odd thing to say, because what it means is that if Voss was asked that same question about a player meeting, he is saying he would lie to protect a player's privacy.

Reckon there would surely be zero angst in the "locker room". Players meet other clubs all the time.

But then again, Carlton's loserishness could create weird internal vibes.

Far out, Ralphy must be on the payroll of player managers. Spins all over the place creating absolute bullshit in every direction.

I think Mangers are most of the Jurno's Sources are from

Agree with that..................from what I heard at least , Voss' criticism was directed at Fly.

I think when Fly was asked his immediate reaction was not to lie , which is the right choice. But it's also not a black or white choice so to speak. He could've just said "Any discussions we have with prospective employees of any kind are considered to be in confidence and it's not my place to discuss that with you guys at a media conference" and they would've moved on.

It seems that JSOS is done at Carlton , so perhaps it's not an issue but I'm also thinking of how it might have appeared to others who might want to chat to us at some point.

It's all a storm in a teacup.

We all know TDK met with Lyon before Xmas. That was made public. He has to walk back into the same clubrooms as Jack.

Everyone knows there's a chance that meetings get out. It's no big deal and perhaps this is the start of a new era of honesty on this sort of thing vs say Bucks/Tom Lynch , but personally I'd still prefer that we are not the ones making it public.

I remember 2023, this happened and some people were getting concerned.
It's a 5 day turnaround, making sure Billy and co are ripe for the next 3 H&A games.
Strategy is how Fly operates, trust the plan. Remember Billy locking down a great defender in the GF? Have faith guys, Dean has had his last game IMO.
Emotions run high this time of year, Fly always has a plan, trust him.
Everyone remembers this part, what people forget is Harris Andrews almost won them the game in the last quarter.

You could see Fly hesitated before answering - I imagine that he thought to himself, "I can't lie" and went from there. Your suggestion might have been the better option, but I kinda like Fly's no b/s approach.

While I am keen on JSoS (hopefully) arriving to bolster our KPD stocks, I agree with many that the future of the midfield concerns me a lot. Outside of Nick it's a lot of question marks and players with flaws (Long, Ed, HDM), and while I think many of us agree young McGuane will be a quality player it's still a big unknown. As an aside, I'm all for continuing to grow those 3 lads, and I think they all have "enough" to be good at AFL level, but as we come towards the back end of 2025 I don't think any of us can be rock solid in our belief any of them will be genuine long term AFL players

While someone like Zac Butters is obviously the "dream" I just can't see how it gets done - particularly in 2025. Even in 2026 we'd still have to trade for him and Port would be demanding even more than what Houston cost us 12 months ago, not to mention there'd be a frenzy of Vic clubs desperate to get him in the door.

For me this off season, I think if we could manufacture a way to get Sam Flanders and Cam McKenzie in to our squad (24 and 22 respectively) that would be a massive boost to our side. Both are high quality players that have been shuffled in and out of their sides midfields at present and would assist our age gap and midfield future. Alex Davies we've been linked too in the past - but I do wonder if he's already a bit too similar to the likes of Ed and Ned? Would we better trying to continue improving and developing those 2 rather than just bringing in another?

Of course those are just 3 examples - would love to hear other suggestions of mids in that bracket that we could/should be targeting?

I am fairly confident that butters is a free agent next year. But I would prefer we trade for him this year, we can find the trade assets if he are able to convince him to pick us.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t the Jsos issues run deeper than years of mismanaging him?

Pretty sure the breakdown between sos and the club is also playing a major role is Jsos choosing to leave them.
