What? He’s barely a year older than Josh Daicos
28 this year. Unless we have a miraculous rebuild, he’s not the answer.

Amongst other needs....
a lot of supporters are going to find this very hard to swallow, but it has shut. We need to target "top end talent" , and that starts with trading into the top end of the draft . We need young elite mids to grow with nick.

What is a “miraculous” rebuild? Gold Coast & Adelaide were bottom 4 very recently. Sydney were a bottom 4 team twice consecutively in 2019 and 2020 before making the 22 GF. Melbourne won the flag 2 years after finishing 17th.
Rebuilds don’t have to be in the endless North/WC vein
None of those teams had the age profile we have. Not comparable. Gc are chock full of young talent. Adelaide have a great mix. Sydney always get great talent through their academy. Who’s our young guns aside from Nick?

Well then nobody is comparable because no team has ever been older. So what’s the point trying to foresee how anything could occur at all?
Do you think adding further mature age players who are close to or at their peak will help us in the long term for when we are relevant again?

I don’t think we’re going to be irrelevant at all if we recruit right, that’s the whole point. Trying to bring in Silvagni to soften the blow of Howe eventually leaving and bringing in a gun mid to offset the fading of Pendles and Sidey is a start in that regard.
Time to rethink the clubs list priorities if they aren't already......The list is cooked..... Midfield is talentless with out a fit DeGoey and support for the Daicos brothers. Beau fit might improve the situation but another genuine midfielder is required.
Ed is still a couple of years away if he makes it and Ned is hopeless.
DeGoey, Nick and Josh is it. The other elderly midfielders are declining rapidly now.

Papering over the cracks won’t bring us back to contention. We need young talent not decent mature aged recruits.

What young talent is there to acquire? Do you mean draft picks? What is the approach you want?
Draft picks over a middling 28 year old? Sure. Makes sense.
This game isn't a sign that our veterans are over it and we need to suddenly rebuild. If anything it shows how important 35 year old Howe is. Our worst players were the peak Moore/Houston/JDG/Cameron etc.
It's our coaches that screwed up this season messing with selection and chemistry.
It shows that we need to keep plugging clear holes like KPD that Silvagni clearly addresses.

He's a UFA. That's the equivalent of having another 5th round pick if we decide to skip recruiting him and save a list spot for the draft
We also have 3 F/S NGAs as young talent coming in for this year.
All of those older players will be another year older next year. I think the problems run a little deeper than selection issues.

Not all of them are going to go round again. Cox, Mitchell, WHE are probably gone. Maybe one of them stays as depth.
Having another HDM/Allan in terms of late first round pick isn't going to make any difference to our list. We're already going to get 3 of them through F/A and NGA this year.
