Pies maybe being frugal with big money because they eye big name stars in 2027?

logic suggest so.

Pies need to build around Naicos for the next 10 years and not just for the next 2 years.
Makes sense not to chase ghosts if the players available aren’t the right ones. Need to be smart and think 5 years ahead, not just for next year.

If we retain our list, we are a chance to win next year even without any new pickups. Have to consider that some of the young guys and guys coming back from ACLs might be just as good “recruits” as what we could trade in this year.

Go hard at some real big recruits at the end of 2027 instead of blowing our load on mediocre guys this year just because everyone else is.

The article said they considered him for the vfl final. I think he came off a 40 disposal VFL game. It might have been that they were considered him for the last AFL game of the season. It was a couple of weeks ago but in the end he's certainly fit as we speak so the calf has healed ( for now)
Treloar played the first final. He had 35 with 11 clearances and 8 tackles to back up the 40 possession match. I’d offer him 2 years on decent* money with the 2nd having a games trigger. I’d be surprised if he’s out of the system next year.

*depending on the competition for his signature.

If we manage him similar to Geelong with Martin, he could more than just midfield depth

I must admit I have been very critical of Ed for making list management decisions with his heart rather than his head (Grundy, Beams), but I can see why as I wouldn’t be able to help it with Treloar. Would love to see Adz back at the club, would right the wrongs of doing such a great guy so dirty in his contract. It does help that he fits a need as compared to his role with us back in the day he’s been playing more inside less outside with the Dogs, likely because he’s lost a yard of pace (he was top 15 in the game in 2024 for CPs and clearances). A better list fit than Merrett IMO.

My brother saw, chatted with and let Adam Treloar eat their leftovers at a bar in Berwick in his first season at the dogs.
He was still shattered and loves the club. Did not bag one person at the club either.
I reckon he’d come back no problems.

It could even have the potential to lift the whole club. He was much loved at Collingwood

Absolutely heartbreaking watching him in the days after the trade. Would be good karma righting that wrong in a way

Treloar - was one of my favourite players the club recruited but no chance I want him back. No thanks.

Mitch Lewis was a fan a year or two age but too many injuries. No thanks. We would almost be doing the Hawks a favour.

Might be in minority - and aware that we've allegedly said we've "got a big fish" on the line, but personally wouldn't mind a tactically quieter trade period this year.

We have a couple FS/Academy selections coming our way, if we can add a few other selections around them - continue to back in the growth and development of Ned, Ed, Steele, Parker, West, HDM/Howes/Cochrane/Steene etc and set ourselves for a big crack at the 2026 OOC market (be it through gathering picks and cap space) which boasts some very tempting names:
  • Ben King
  • Zac Butters
  • Josh Weddle
  • Jack Buckley
  • George Wardlaw

I just feel like with the names moving this season - and barring a Dan Houston type surprise, there isn't much readily available in the market right now that improves us again for next season.
