Best sport in the world, Ted. Not even really close.

I'll give you the worst 5;
Motor Racing
Swimming
Club Rugby Union
Gridiron
Basketball

The best;
Golf
Cricket
Football
AFL
Skiing
Hurling
Baseball
Dressage, Cross Country at Olympics, Horse Racing =8
I like swimming, at least the 50m and 1500. Agree re hurling, went to the all gaelic semis a few years back in croak park, was a craking day.

The more women play the game now the more will in the future and the faster it will improve. This is what has been seen by Australia in cricket and England in football.

Fifteen years ago football fans in England were dismissive of the standards in the women’s game and attendances were in the toilet. Today their national team has won back to back European championships and an increasing number of women’s top flight games are played in front of big crowds in big stadia. There is still a long way to go to anything resembling parity but a big distance has been covered pretty quickly and it now has broad support, particularly in under 30s.

One of the things this thread is making me ponder after nearly 20 years in UK is whether attitudes lag in Australia. This is despite our relative success in women’s sport. What would my early 20s daughter who has grown up in London since she was 4 make of some of the posts? She is more excited to see AFLW than AFL. Fact. Times change.

None of that changes my desire to see the presumably Larkey-led Roos back in finals contention but I am sat here in Frankfurt airport waiting for my flight back to London listening to the women school Hawthorn with a smile on my face. 42-8 early Q3 as I sign off.

There are 10 clubs that fit your criteria.

They make up 2 of the top 4.

5 of the top 8.

or are you saying that AFLW will only have made it when the top four only consists of clubs in this list?

One of the best things about the AFLW is that it doesn't currently hold to the established order within the AFL. There isn't the clear two tiered system of haves and have nots. It is a system of do it better and rise.

If the AFL pursue the ideal of having big clubs as the top clubs then AFLW will have lost an element that keeps it more sport than sports entertainment.

People express on here about how it is a novelty, etc. IMHO it is a more pure version of the game because it is not fully formed into an expected format. If/Once that happens we will be pushed into irrelevancy in a simliar way that we have in the mens.
Brisbane fans are fickle ****s. Adjusted for memberflation, that probably means around 40-45k proper Brisbane members exist. I don't recall that being the case back in the day

hey now look, I was so much with you when it comes to the worst 5, and then I got to the other end of the scale.

Golf.

God save us.

I reckon golf would be brilliantly addictive if you were good, and searingly shit if you weren't. At least with some of the others you can be pretty crap and still have fun. I dunno if that's the case with stationary swingball

People think I dont want women playing football. Thats not my point, my point is the W was rushed and was never grown organically. Therefore you have half a comp that couldn’t do a lap of the tan, cant kick, cant handball and can barely catch a football. Irish players are more talented than Australian players. Crowd numbers are already declining, viewership is declining, how many people would attend if they charged entry for kids?

They should have had state (televised) stand alone games, growing organically as curtain raisers or gap/bridging games on FTA, not just dump an 18 team comp where the standard is terrible, not all clubs take the comp seriously, the fixture is worse than the AFL and its just burning hundreds of millions of dollars. The money is better spent growing it from grass roots.

Thats my point. Its really difficult to watch, its horrendous when the cant actually bounce a football on the plod. Its a bit of an embarrassment to professional womens sport in general to be perfectly honest
People think about you far less than you imagine

I find the British Open fascinating on the links courses. Pretty dull otherwise

Yes. The only reason we would push River, or anyone, back is it would allow us to take the third rounder we got from Adelaide to the draft for live trading.
I can't believe we haven't moved someone onto the rookie list. Corr, CCJ, Scott, Fisher or Stevens prime candidates.

You're not talented enough for Golf, I understand. It's not for all. And there is no god, friend, you don't believe in golf, but think there's a dude who lives in the sky who cares about you. Please.

You tell me another sport where you get 4-8 hours away from your mrs, can eat, drink, smoke, take whatever you want, get driven around, be waited upon and 'bat' for 5 hours without the concept of being dismissed, on the greatest pieces of land in the world, surrounding yourself with rich people who don't really give a ****....and get a nice tan whilst you're at it.

Crazy, I guess you could value time with your wife. It was only my 3rd sport, but I like the walk and the time you get with your mates away from their family the most. Punting and Podcasts are involved, excessive drinking and drug use. What's not to like? You even get some reasonable flusies in some of these places working in bars, bring sandwiches to you etc, again, what's not to like?? In other countries Thailand/Bali/Colombia for example, you can get hot caddies who perform other duties when you hit it in the trees.

It's actually the last bastion of civil society.

Harsh but TBF personally I’d add tennis + baseball to that list
Yes Yes on Tennis, unless it’s Alcaraz and Sinner going hard at it in a Grand Slam final.

Watching Djoker bounce the ball 12 times before each serve and then feign some mystery injury every 2nd match has killed the joy. The same for that serial undies arse grabbing Spaniard Nadal when he played. Borefest.

Do we actually need another list spot to use the picks we plan to at the draft though?
