Probably, and I’m glad they do. I like that the club seems to do the right thing, however I do wonder if it’s holding us back and a more ruthless approach would work better.
No point cutting layers when you don’t have picks to replace them.

Hey chubb if we didn't use this year's 1st who do you think we would have gone or who do you think we should have picked. This goes out to Scout and roosfanatic as well would be very interested on all your thoughts.
This is such a hard question pup, I'm not real sure, but to do this you have to take the players you like in the draft out of the equation if its not logical or that you don't think Will will draft, going by everything we have done up to this point I've come to the conclusion that we would have traded down the order, now where is the big question, if say we like Aidan Schubert then probably between picks 6/7/8 because I believe that the two clubs that will come for Aidan are the Swans & the Cats and if the mail says that at the Swans he isn't the number 1 or 2 target then trade down to or before pick 14. The other player would be Harley Barker, now although he is my favourite player in this draft, I've thought long and hard about this second selection in detail and it appears so logical its not funny.

This boy is not only the modern day winger with his defence & attack balance and his dual position ability {has played as a backman in his junior years, so he knows the position well} but his potential is through the roof in my opinion, to have someone like Harley on the backline for a few years and then to switch between halfback and the wing would complement our future team to a tee.

Now on to what or where Harley is rated by the recruiters is nigh on impossible to know, only the other recruiters towards draft time will have an inkling but because if you take out all the father/sons and the academy selections I would be absolutely stunned if he didn't go in the first half of the first round of the national draft. So who would be targeting him and at what picks if we did indeed like him, maybe the Swans, the Cats and the crows so that at this stage would be picks 9 the Swans/ 15 the Cats and pick 17 the crows, but the Bombers with their second pick is a big watch in my opinion which is pick 6.

If Harley was not on the first couple of selections on Will's whiteboard then the other boy is Jacob Farrow from WA, a halfback with a deadly left foot, pace and just as dependable in the air, great season so far for him, All Australian, improved his status and at WAFL league level he's showing what sort of player he is going to be, a real beauty. Xavier Taylor is in that mix as well. Run and carry + defence coupled with attack, these players mentioned have it.;) Transition is the key word.

Sonja needs to come out now and say that we are requesting the AFL extend our extra rookies for 2 more years. GC had theirs for far longer than us and had extra leg ups through their academy.

It’ll be equally as gutless as it is laughable if we don’t request for that assistance to continue.
I'd be for this if we could use them to our advantage. But so far it has meant either pointless additions like Daniel Howe or Tyler Sellers or retaining list cloggers for an extra year. With this year's shallow draft, it seems a good time to trim back and concentrate our development time on our better kids.

Rather ask for extra coaches for a 2 year period than rookie spots!

How about Sonja going to Clarkson and saying here's some extra coaches, you aint getting any more players other than the ones we draft or trade, come up with a f'in defensive structures and at least win some bloody games and ...no more 90+pt losses!!

Yep for sure if we traded down I'd be trying to get Aidan and one of Harley Barker or Jacob Farrow as wing/hbf players.
I wouldn't rule out Freo taking Jacob with pick 12 before WCE (Hawks) pick 14.

I do like Xavier Taylor. Looks like he'll be in that top 15-20 range.
I've been watching a bit of young SA kid Blake Thredgold Scout at 194cm, have you got any more info about him?
He looks a bit similar to Xavier, deceptively athletic, good anticipation to intercept/spoil. Not sure on the kicking though.
Also, wondered if you knew anything about Jacob Marron, 195cm (Western Jets) or Bryce Sanders, 199cm (North Adelaide) as key defenders?
Obviously thinking more if we actually use pick 57, which is probably unlikely if Toby and/or RHJ get promoted.

Hawks playing 4 tall forwards this week

Surely 1 is gettable

Gunston is eligible for a pension in 7 years, Chol plays 2nd ruck & Lewis/Dear will be A1/A2 key forwards. Don’t think any gettable unless we want Gunston in a Daniel/Darling role (which he’d be better at, but Hawthorn is his home now).

Sam Frost is mightily error prone while not being at North. Can you imagine just how excruciatingly shit he'd be in North colours? Wouldn't touch him with a three metre pole

Gives it his all, fierce competitor, and is a professional. Also plays a stopping role now some pissy interceptor role.

Take him over Logue & Corr any day. I could deal with a turnover when he’s sprinting trying to create - it’s the flat footed ones of a step from marks that shit me to tears.

The player in the middle looks like a certain number 30 that is out for the season...

Charlie C?

#30?

Plays for a club near the Royal Children's Hospital?

Has short curly hair?

Has battled injuries this year?

Looks a bit unco?

Hmmmm you're going to need to narrow it down.

You've got a keen eye chubby, Blake is one of those players that will do everything he can to get the best out of himself, at Sturt he's played forward and back in the key posts, he has not long come back from a broken hand but managed the last game for the crow eaters against Vic Country, played okay, he's, to me, plays like an old fashioned defender which is a compliment, if he had of played the other three games in the champs his name might of been talked a bit more than what it has, also the fact that if he hadn't broken his hand then the feeling is he would have played all four matches, that there says quite a lot.

Recruiters will know more about him and he's a chance to be picked up there's no doubt about that, he has lots of scope for improvement. Don't know a lot about the other two boys in Jacob Marron & Bryce Sanders but roos_fanatic08 or one of the other guys might know a bit about them.:)

I reckon Dear will push Lewis out.

If so we should be going hard after Lewis, as he is only going to get better (post ACL) with another preseason under his belt. Pretty much the perfect combination with Larkey as he is more of a contested marking threat.

While we are at it, we should be enquiring about Jiath too. Playing VFL at the moment, and didn’t even make the emergencies list this week.

Agreed. Love Lewis although I have concerns around his forward craft. Often gets caught not laying a block, running through other bloke's leads etc.

Legitimately I think we'd be doing better with you in one of the roles instead of either Rawling or Thursfields

He had been out for a while, and last night there were 3-4 talls all vying for space in the Hawks forward line.

One of those things where you get your forward synergy back once you play a few games together.

Is Darcy Wilson get able
Hoped that we'd draft him and would still really like him at North. Would improve us and has the bonus of a good North family connection. Not sure if we'd have the capital to get him which we'd probably use, going by recent examples, to get some experienced bloke on an overly long term deal. But, if rumours are true that he might be a bit unhappy then he's someone you'd hope the club would look at.
Went to school with his aunt ... christ, that makes me feel old.

The thought crossed my mind that Luke Breust has North recruit written all over him...

Lewis would be excellent but I can't imagine he'd want to leave nor the Hawks open to losing him.
