Whether he's been told he's surplus to midfield requirements or not, it seems like a selfish move. Surely he has the introspection to realise that he's not a good kick.

That said, I reckon we'll miss him more than we think if he goes. At the moment we have a bunch of headless chooks running around not knowing where to go at given times. LDU, Wardlaw, Zurhaar, Powell, X all guilty of it. ****ing FOS showed better game sense in his first game than most of these lads ever have.

Jy actually has knowledge of structure and position, and I reckon we're gonna be wondering why things look so disjointed (yes, even more so) between the centre and half forward if he does leave.

Unideal situation. No pleasure in this news

I'm not so sure about that, this news has dropped a few days after the Syd Barker and being reported by several journos, his management are on the front foot, they're definitely testing the waters let's see if anyone bites.
Yes and when you consider it was Luke Hodge (still closely aligned with Clarko) who revealed Jy's nefarious golf game/comp in the media, and gave him a clip, get the feeling there's been ill-will leading up to this for a while.

You are too kind. Tom isn't that good and has lots of limitations to his game. He is a C grade midfielder with a B grade ceiling who has shown no ability to play elsewhere. By the end of the season he had been pushed out of his spot by younger players, and there are others likely to overtake him soon too. Fine to keep him as back up, but if we can improve our team by offloading him, it is an easy choice.

Many a side have moved mids out of the middle for better mids / mix

Let's hope Gonzo learnt from the Brown debacle and doesn't shoot himself in the foot leading into trade discussions.
Completely different scenario, we withdrew our offer to Brown so we weren't in a position to negotiate. Jy is a contracted player who will potentially ask for a trade, we hold the upper hand.

Could this be a reverse Leigh Colbert situation where we offload our captain and end up with a Moons/Enright double and go on to win several flags and be in contention for 2 decades while our trade partner falls into a heap?

A man can dream.
Wow, what a time to be alive, players from Geelong requesting trades to North Melbourne, real estate between Geelong and Colac owned by farmers rather than footballers, Cotton On an up and coming clothes company rather than a salary cap launderer... different times, kids of today wouldn't understand....

Before anyone dreams of a decent return, it would take us paying a sizeable bit of that contract every year for the next 4 years to get a club to hand over something of use. Something tells me I don’t think we’ll fight very hard to keep him either.
We’ve probably already paid a fair chunk of it. Would have been heavily front loaded.

He's making the starting midfield at any of

Adelaide (Berry, Soligo)
Carlton (Cerra)
Essendon (take your pick)
Collingwood (Pendlebury)
Richmond (take your pick)
West Coast (take your pick)
St Kilda (Boxshall/Windhager)
Hawthorn (Worpel)

It's actually the perfect time to trade Simpkin. Assuming we can get something of value that better fits the needs of the team.
Its the contract. Wasnt great at the time and looks bad now. From list balance, we should jump to trade. Get his contract off books - we will need yo pay some i think. Unfortunately for him, he is expendable. Opens time for others. He is not getting more cba time - it will be way less if he stays. Esp after this public stuff.

Reckon Jy would be open to a move to the Dees. With Trac potentially on the way out, linking up with Oliver and Gawn could really suit him. Can’t see him holding a midfield role at the Roos next year.
Isn’t he mates with Clayton’s

I'm just saying you do not bluff with your cards faced up on the table. Yes, we wanted to get rid of him but we should have "remained in discussions" about terms until we got a deal we liked. Saying we are going in a different direction meant we were just going to get a firesale offer. There was no real opportunity to bluff that we might up our offer to him.

I mean, this should be pretty obvious with any kind of dealing.

We completely stuffed up the Ben Brown trade there's no denying that, this is very different though, if Jy does ask for a trade we're in a much better position.

I remember when they laughed at Brown when he showed a video to the midfield group of how other clubs delivered the ball to their key forwards.

I wouldn't be surprised if not being a good kick is news to him.
