Lachie Smith 39 HOs, 22 disposals, 16 contested. And a goal.

Still lacks some polish but playing against mature state league footballers that's not bad for a ruckman who doesn't turn 20 until after the GF.

Arty Jones has a lot going for him. If he can maintain his trajectory, I would love him standing next to Sam Darcy and West on our Full Forward line.

Arty was really unlucky to do that hammy. He was travelling really well and looked good even within that game before he went down. Came on vs Freo and looked very comfortable in a high pressure game.

He's no sure thing beyond 2026, at this stage, but I think it's more likely than not he's a regular fixture - or at least should be. We know who tends to get gifted games in those positions.

Wow I forgot Lachie Smith is still only 19. I know he's a more "ready" ruck with his size, but rucks are so often useless until at least 3-4 AFL pre-seasons. Very impressive he has come along so quickly and could be ready to play a few AFL games next year if Tim misses time.

It will take a much better team than Frankston to beat our VFL side. Frankston has some skilful, young players but they couldn't cope with the sustained intense pressure we applied all day. Scott was best until he was subbed out with concussion; had 19 disposals before half time. The backline was rock solid as you would expect with so much experience. Artie Jones had an important impact and seems to be getting more involved than previous and the mids led by Treloar dominated. We must extend Treloar for at least next year, the risk is worth having such a talented player on the list.

Forgot to mention Walker who showed some very exciting form as an unexpected forward. He's very lightly built but he's a smart footballer who is quick and an excellent mark. If we can get all of our young recruits into the gym - Walker, Dolan, Jacques, Hynes and Smith, they will better cope with the physical demands of AFL level and push for senior selection next year.

Imagine being that jacked at 19y.o. Some amazing genetics there. I’ve been slinging plates around for 20 years to get to somewhere similar.
