our pre-season form is worrysome. I think we'll have the same mistakes and will get in our own heads again. I feel as though J-Lo is a good coach, but won't take us to the promised land. I feel his very best would be a losing grand final result, we'll most likely straight sets with or 1 final win only max this year.

I didn't even think they were bad. At all. Played 2 games in super-swirly conditions and won both. if we go back in time, pumped West Coast in 2018 as others have mentioned recently and watched them win a Premiership at season's end whilst Freo went on to flounder. I think people jump some serious gun sometimes. I'll judge more as the season unfolds and 4 points are at stake at a time. I posted (partially) joking above, but honestly, I don't really know, but if I'm going to put my chips in, might as well go all in. Who can say, no one wins the cup in February, cliched but fact.
Fair point, I remember going to a preseason derby in Joondalup back in 2018 and we belted the Eagles by 10 goals.
I came away thinking we were going to have a good year and they would win the spoon.
Well we ended up 14th and no prize for guessing who won the cup that year!

Yep.
I think Round 1 against Geelong will be a good indication as to whether we’ve grown and improved. A very good yard stick for our progress as Daddoo pointed out.

We have built a wonderful list thanks to a mixture of outstanding talent identification, drafting and trading. It is not unreasonable to label our midfield as top four. Young, Jackson and Reid is an insane trio to have and they are not even the main act.
Same goes for the forwardline. Treacy, Amiss and Voss alongside Bolton again is an insanely stacked forward 50 which should have top 4 scoring potential.
I don't think we should be afraid to have high standards for our team this year. Top 4 midfield and forwardline should make us contenders. A good coach would get us a double chance at finals. Anything less is a failure.

Yep, even as someone who still has my doubts over JLo I can't deny that our players have been developed really well to their individual potentials.
Chapman is probably the only one who comes to mind who hasn't reached or surpassed the expectations I had on him as a rookie yet.

Across town I've done the ladder predicter a few times and tbh I do think West Coast beat the real seller dwellers in Perth this year. They have North twice here and Richmond once. Think that'll be enough for them to not finish last.
Also think Port Adelaide might be underrated. Very soft draw and tbh I almost need to be deliberately harsh on them to make them miss finals. Will they get past wildcard round? No. But they also won't finish 13th.
Whilst I think the bottom five is in the wrong order, I also think it's the correct five teams. IMO only 13 teams can make the top 10.

The AFL.com.au’s combined ladder is very interesting as an objective reference point.
I think in the past we (Freo BF board) arguably fell into the pattern or overrating our prospects. I remember there was a fair bit of indignation before the 2024 season when David King and some others predicted us to miss finals.
So yeah, seeing the experts’ combined ladder having us finishing second is quite eye opening to me. I’d still say that actually achieving a top 2 finish would be very surprising (to me at least), but that ladder helps me see that expecting a top 4 finish is not just the realm of optimistic and hopeful supporters.
He's a strange cat Chapman. I remember watching him quite closely at training at Freo Oval a couple of years back or maybe last year.
He was spraying his kicks everywhere and visibly from a distance beating himself up verbally every time.
I suspect (like all athletes at times) he might be his own worst enemy.
He doesn't say much or anything publicly so it's hard to get a better read on him but he plays very introverted. Great ferocity but introverted.
Reminds me of Shane Parker. If he turned out as good as Parks I'd be happy. Could set your watch by Parks in the day.

I can handle finishing behind teams like Brisbane, but if the likes of Hawthorn or Bulldogs finish above us I'll be pissed.
I’d say for us to finish top 2 we are reliant on a healthy Young and Pearce (and/or Cox) - miss many games from them and we will struggle to beat the real quality sides.Could I ask the people who predict a Freo finish outside the top 6, and suggest that others setting aTop 4 expectation are getting ahead of themselves, to comment on this?

I’m not sure the other predicted top half dozen are as reliant on a handful of players, maybe they are and I just don’t follow them as closely?
