Kerch also. He is top 5-10 in the league moving the ball forward with conviction. It is worth its weight in gold.
If he played for a Collingwood or a Geelong he'd be one of the afls cover boys.

Yeah it's weird tho. I wonder why they didn't play him more. He looks like he can play a bit.

JUH is more risky a proposition and they're both extremely high picks.
I reckon he's a lazy player perhaps in the Zane mould and got phased out by Hardwick.
But I'm really going mostly off that set shot 10m out where he missed.
He looked good as a junior, so bit surprised it's gone off the rails for him. His value is an interesting discussion.

Herald sun had a go at gold coasts best 23 next year and they had Walter on the bench and didn’t even have JUH in the squad and it made me wonder if position vs position if any of our players get into that team and i don’t think any do expect xerri vs Witt’s, and maybe larkey and king are the same. im taking Rowell over ldu, Anderson over sheezel, Rioli over Daniel, Collins over logue etc. obviously sheez is getting in there team at hf or hb but at position vs position I don’t think we have 1 player and they just got the best kids in the draft.

Ridiculous how much the afl has helped them.
Kerch, FOS & Sheez.

And that would make absolute sense, he’s probably their 3rd or 4th best KPF. Out of contract end of 2026? There’s probably 10 clubs who will put their best bid forward, but we should mortgage the ranch for him
Should we? I'm hopeful Trembath was no flash in the pan, Curtis improves again, Larkey and Zuurhaar back to their best, we cement at least 1 regular scoreboard contributor out of Dovaston, Banch, and/or Spargo. Not to mention if Will Dawson cements a spot down back and Whitlock develops as a key forward. AND then there's the possibility of tapping Zane's talent as a high half forward, plus goal scoring abilities of mids in Sheezel, Wardlaw, Parker, LDU and McKercher now and then. (Probably FOS too).

Plenty of IF's there BUT I don't agree that we should mortgage the ranch for such a player based on current output. I'd rather be focusing energy on making sure McCartney chooses us under father son rules!

Walter could be worth it. We don't have a player like him on our list.
I wouldn't see chasing him and McCartney as an either/or situation. With both, all we can do is make our best case and hope it is persuasive.

I'd go pretty close to mortgaging the ranch.

Curtis and Zurhaar aren't key forwards. Zurhaar has hit his ceiling.

Trembath is still an unknown quantity; his set shot technique is below AFL standard. That can change, but he can't be pencilled in as a permanent contributor yet. Love his marking, but if we knew how to manage a list he'd be a back-up option and not the great white hope.

The others you've mentioned are irrelevant to the discussion.

The way we play with our high bombs inside 50, two key forwards are an absolute non negotiable. Walter is young, powerful when he moves, and a strong mark. I think I heard his set shots are patchy, but the talent is bloody clear. If the opportunity presents, we should bolt like the clappers to secure him

Just to clarify yes fos and all these other players listed are better then some players on gold coats list but in preferred position sheez, fos etc are not better.
I'd take FOS over Noble on one flank if Rioli was on the other, but that would be meddling with hypothetical levels perhaps best left untouched

Noble? Won't be good enough to lace Fos's boots in a year. As for right now, one is gonna be a genuine star, the other has walked into a team that uses his run and is a grade or 2 above hack.

Walter is no Tony Lockett infront of goal
