The ruck should however be the easiest position to fix. Just flash some cash at a second stringer at another club who cant consistently crack the main team, and they will automatically be better than Flynn. We just need someone who can compete in the position until we develop Archer/ CDT.
Thats exactly how we wound up with Flynn.

I’m asking this question because I don’t know the answer or if it’s even feasible

It appears Jed Walter may be gettable and if he is then it’d be hard not to pursue a player with his talent.

The issue is we are reasonably well stocked with young key forwards whilst still having Waterman contracted to 2029. So he’s not exactly a list need

With that in mind, could Walter be developed as a KPD, which is a list need. He’s big, fast and aggressive and could make an interesting companion to Ginbey in defence

Not sure if he has the capacity, or inclination, but it’s a thought.
Some ‘exoerts’ have suggested that’s where his best footy might be especially at the Suns.

I think it comes down to when CDT can play as a number 1 ruck. Grundy is the last one I can remember in his 2nd season of taking over the ruck. Luke Jackson was probably capable.

If CDT can and we went down that path.

Walter - Waterman - Murdock
Hewett - Shanahan - Arki Butler/ K Edwards

CDT ruck and Archer Bench (Fwd/Ruck)

Is pretty exciting for 2027 and beyond

HVH looked like a full grown man playing against 10 year olds. He is huge, 205cm, and has great skills on that vision.
Yeah if he was at our pick, you just have to take him. You don't not take gold nuggets like that. Already spoken of as generational.

Not sure about Walter being fast - he’s always looked super lumbering whenever I’ve seen him. Might have good top speed but zero swervability. IMO I can see him ending up not having much of a role like Jack Williams. Unless there’s something I’ve missed

Walter is ****ing fast and has very good acceleration. His defensive pressure and ability to create separation on the lead were two of his defining features when he was drafted. He’d regularly chase down and bury small and medium defenders. He’d be perfect for the system we are trying to implement.

Beau McCreary is very, very quick.

About a week ago there was talk here in Vic media that Walter is being pursued by Vic clubs. Unless we throw a huge contract at him, which would seem irresponsible considering how little he has shown and how deep our tall forward stocks are, I suspect he'll be lured by a big name Vic club.

Collingwood & Geelong the obvious destinations.

The talk is also that we are fairly into him, he has a WA connection, etc.

Vic clubs will be into him but he spent part of the preseason break in Perth(photos posted on IG with Ginbey and Hall) and has reportedly met with Mini already.

As he's originally form WA to begin with, as well as being a massive WCE fan, it'd take something special for a Melbourne club to lure him to a place he has no connection to, such as a huge amount of money but we've seen players turn down those offers before to get to where they want/stay anyway.

Not saying it's impossible but seems less likely. More just those clubs are throwing their hats in the ring.

I suspect Vic clubs will put more effort into Ben King than Walter at this stage.

If Archer or Shanahan goes down back as part of the ploy to get Walter then that would work.

With our key back stocks thin, and HEdwards future looking dicey it's one solution, albeit will be a pricey one to do

Dont personally like the idea of Shazza playing down back in anything other than a Hunter-esque swingman role. Kid has the very desirable dual traits of sticky hands and kicking boots. Future Coleman medallist.

Yep but if/when King signs the offers will come for Walter and I suspect if he King signs, Walter likely leaves.

He won’t be short on offers imo. How much teams offer will likely be a decent gap between the lowest and the highest. What does a trade look like? Are they in the Butter, Humphries, Merrett race because they won’t have the trade assets do likely do 2 players.

If we can continue with the way we played on the weekend Walter, Neale, Warner all become genuine options I believe. The young core looked good while the vet role players did it well. Big ask but the standard has been set and doesn’t have to always lead to wins clearly.

Seeing the difference Yeo made, I can see why we would be all in on Neale. Would make a huge difference for a couple of years. Going by his insta post, he is struggling as expected being away from his kids.

I will burn down the entire club if Shanahan becomes a defender.

Send him back there late in quarters sure but dude is a rolled gold KPF.

I think the thing with Geelong and Collingwood is that they're unlikely to make huge money offers for a rival player. We always hear about how neither club 'overpays' to keep their groups together although they'll likely need to revisit that now that Geelong has been found out to have rorted the salary cap(what a surprise...) and Naicos is reportedly unhappy with his deal at Collingwood.

Then the other club supposedly making a move is Essendon. LMFAO. Why on earth would he go to that dump?

Neale would certainly be great for a couple of seasons, potentially keeping the seat warm for Warner before transitioning into a coaching role.

Might get a big offer from Adelaide though, depending on how their season goes. He's exactly what they need.

That's true but there were reports he was considering a move to Melbourne instead of Perth. Plenty of water to go under the bridge before the trade and FA period though.

This.

On Gettable today at 24 minutes when discussing the Bulldogs - "Jedd Busslinger hasn't worked out"

Tears from heaven are falling right now as the angels cry and Jesus wept.

I look forward to people on this board pumping his tyres up, whilst he can't even crack a game in a team desperate for a KPD.
Guys a perennial loser for choosing to stay at Bulldogs cos the discos are cool in Melbourne.

Would never want someone with that mentality

I’d say the most likely scenario is that King stays on big dollars and Walter leaves purely due to lack of opportunity.

I do think if he leaves it’s to WCE and that is based on $$$, game style suiting our system and his family connection to WA.

I do think we can afford to offer him more than enough to rival Vic clubs, especially considering Bailey Williams' FA status, unless they offer something stupid which I don't believe they will for a promising KPF playing 2's most of the year.

Clarke playing 5D chess.

Also I said yesterday about if Walter would be surplus to needs. We saw Waterman and Shanahan roll behind the ball this year so far, Archer and CDT rotating ruck and forward. I think we can make it work if we carry one main KPD, Ginbey then roll down Shanahan or Waterman when needed, or even select a third tall like Bazzo or Brock based on that weeks match up.

Then Walter just be the guy down forward. We are developing a very modern and versatile team which is great
