Training 2026 Training Reports

I think Jackson will spend time across many positions, half forward roaming, bursts in the centre, ruck, full forward.

The WA side already had English and Cameron rucking. Also had Lobb in the backline. There were almost moments for Luke Jackson but he looked most dangerous roaming around half forward.

What scares me is the possibility of running with Darcy, Cox, Jackson and the three forwards (Amiss, Voss, and Treacy). It is too tall.

Cox is a handy pick-up but I’m sorry he is back-up. He will get his opportunity. I’m even ok if he is next in as a full forward for one of Amiss,Voss,Treacy.

But primarily as an injury back-up for either of Darcy/Jackson.

Between all of those talls we have Darcy doing lion share of rucking and then Jackson/Voss can chop out.

In many of the match simulations LJ has been rucking. Training and developing his midfield craft is very smart but full time centre clearance player he will not be. Giving him a good run at playing full time mid/half forward yesterday was good all round. He does get a bit lost with the ball in transition. Out of position so some learnings for Justin and LJ.

Jackson is already a good player for us.

I don't expect him to become the best midfielder in our team, let alone in the competition. It isn't about that.

Our game style has erred in the side of predictability, and I think it is clear Longmuir is actively trying to rebalance the ledger.

Jackson is a weapon if he is off the leash. But he is also part of Young slipping forward and Murphy/Bolton rotating midfield. Those kind of moves are the things that win matches.

Did Jye spend any time at all on the wing...or is that tactic no longer being tried...I thought it was a good idea , not as a permanent thing but just to mix it up a bit

From what I saw to mix it up. He pushed forward and still lead to position in the forward line when the team he was on was attacking

Not particularly wing. More of a half forward leading at the kicker.
Using his speed and mobility rather then scraping his way in contests.
Better role for him

FREMANTLE

  • Jesus Christ, Murphy Reid might be better than we thought in year two. My gut feel was it would be better to leave him forward another year, but in the Dockers’ intraclub last week he played mainly on-ball and was best on ground. He had 31 touches, set up multiple goals and racked up the clearances. When you watch the vision, his touch is crazy, particularly by hand. The person receiving the ball doesn’t even have to think about adjusting stride. Boy oh boy, wowee.
  • Hayden Young kept going forward, he kicked two goals, which is a watch-and-see going into the pre-season fixtures. Don’t love it, given he kicks goals from the middle anyway, but if that’s the switch to give more minutes to Reid, I don’t hate it either.
  • Tobyn Murray looks like the kind of guy you can depend on as a small forward. Repeat efforts, defensive intensity and makes the most of his opportunities when they arise. That’s as much as you can do in that position.
  • I’m also putting an early stake in the ground on Adam Sweid, almost every session there are one or two bits of vision that make your eyebrows lift. Not saying he’s going to come in and star - just underlining his name in case he does, so I can say I told you so…
I loved the look of Sweid in training.

Ryan Daniels talking up Tobyn Murray this morning on 92.9 sounds like internally he’s getting huge wraps likened to mannagh and could defs play round 1

This is great news, if we can get players into the club each year who put pressure on to force their way into the team then we are doing plenty right.
