All based on the idea that more teams = more games = more eyeballs on the screen = larger advertising audience = larger broadcast deal.
I take a more cynical approach to it. I think the broadcasters will start to lose interest in some games in some markets, even more than now, and without having requirements to broadcast some games into their local markets you might find North games just aren't on TV anymore unless it's against Collingwood or Carlton etc.
Taking the example to the extreme where there is a game on all the time, audiences will tune in for their team and tune out the rest - the graph of the audience interest will be very clear in each market.
There is a future where a broadcaster offers enough money that all of the games will be on subscription broadcasting, locking out audiences like Saturday footy only on Fox, and then if markets don't warrant the game - such as North playing Freo in Melbourne not being of interest to many people at all - no broadcast at all.
The quality of the product is at least as important as the quantity of it. The quality is better with fewer teams.
