Training 2026 Training Reports

What helped the Eagles get ahead was the fact that we were lazy and / or lethargic for the first 15 minutes, something that has been a pattern for a long time.

If we are to be serious contenders we just need to fix that.

I know, preseason, whatever it needs to be addressed - good sides will punish us.
First up is Geelong away as well, for the 2nd straight year running. Such an equalized competition.

I don't care about the scratchies, and/or their outcomes whatsoever, but as you say and so do others....it's a pattern.

I don't want McVee to be gifted a position he doesn't deserve. He needs to earn his spot like everyone else or he can take kick-ins in Mandurah. Especially if Walker is coming back into form.

The AFL stated they were not keeping a record of stats for the scratch games. I think they might for the official pre-season games, so unless an independent online website has decided to record them (the scratch matches), but I doubt it
Keeper league pod on X counts stats for fantasy will be posted on his page soon

Biggest positives:

  • Murphy picking right up where he left off last year. No signs of second year blues.
  • The form of the 3 KPF's. No sign of last year being a flash in the pan for Voss. Amiss back to leading at the foot and looking better than he did all last year. Treacy looking like Treacy.
  • Some signs we've been working on that quick play on overlap handball finally.

Biggest negative:

- That woeful first qtr. We've just come off a final where we came out looking timid and scared and lost to a team we should have beaten who came out far more composed than us. So practising yet again giving the opposition a 4 goal head start is not what I wanted to see. His inability to get the team fired up to throw the first punch is easily JLo's biggest weakness imo.
I totally agree with you on the negative. You play as you train and, given that bringing the right intensity at the right time isn’t our thing, I think we should have tried to go out there with the right intensity for the first 10 minutes. Maybe we did try and bringing the right intensity still isn’t our thing.

JL on Reid after the game - “needs to swim between the flags a bit more, and do the basics, instead of the mercurial”. Ffs, I’ve been a big JL supporter, but this is just not the public messaging. Give him confidence to do his thing and be himself.

He was very complimentary about his ball use and other aspects of his game - but if he takes our boy and dulls his flair and exuberance, I’m done

That’s ****ed

I thought today would make the final 3 spots in the best 22 easy. Now I have more questions
Jom Walker worner Ras johnno all looked really good
Can’t agree with you on this. IMHO Jom was good early, Worner about as expected and Ras and Johnno both not doing enough to be considered more than marginal if availabity across the squad is good. Walker was good of course and, on that performance, gets a spot Round 1.

Freddie and Chappy seem to be automatics but I think both need to up the ante.

We bought our vanilla game plan and probably will do all year.

O’Meara should start at Peel.
His ball use was poop.

Wow, Treacy was so good today. That safety of him and Voss at least 50/50 a contest is such a weapon for you guys and stops offence from the opposition off the half back line as well.

Is Draper injured or just not getting picked, he looks promising.

Erasmus looks more comfortable at the level now, seems to have a bit more time and makes better decisions.

This is what turns people off J-Lo (myself included). He's much too dour and still in that reactive/defensive mindset to understand it's precisely a Murphy Reid type that unlocks a game with their magic. I think the pitchforks might come out early if we see more of the same old-same old Justin. Not convinced we won't, probably never was

Christ you people love a whinge sometimes.

I think JL was right. Tried to be too creative at times. Two moments come to mind. One early second where he was streaming towards 50 and then went right angles to the left where JOM and an eagles player were together. There was a marginal at best advantage for JOM. The ball went out of bounds.

Another in the fourth he had the ball in space deep in the left forward pocket instead of having a shot he kicked the ball to around 35 out and I’m not sure who he saw (might have been a miss kick) but seemed to be only an eagles player and they streamed forward off turnover.

No harm in providing constructive feedback. I’m sure Murphy himself would do things differently on those occasions and take on board the feedback. He is a second year player. Overall he played well and would have had a high number of score assists again.

Sounds like there's another game for the players that missed. Is that against WC or a Peel scratchie?

You can hear in the backround of the Longmuir interview that there's a game going on and when Eliza Reilly asks about Luke Ryan, she says "Luke Ryan out there atm...".

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for giving those RFI's behind closed doors. I just think publicly the messaging should be "we love what he brings, we celebrate his special talent, we want to build our team to allow him to thrive" - rather than saying that he needs to work on his defensive efforts and reign it in a bit. (edit - removed improper use of quotation marks when paraphrasing)

Can't have both Chapman and Worner in the team, slows the ball down too much and Chapman is the better player. This allows the rebound of Clark, McVee and Walker who are much more go forward players..
Good to see Walker back amongst it, underrated player by some on this board.

I know tackles aren’t the be-all and end-all of being ‘defensive’ but Murph had equal most tackles with Young and Serong according to those stats above, so it’s not like he’s just running around just pulling stuff out of his arse. Although when he does, it comes off most times. Don’t stifle the kid FFS

Technically we smashed GC in the last quarter and they just got over the line. It was the 2nd and 3rd quarters we were poo.
