Not a total surprise. Really good kid but he has yet to find the level needed to maintain an AFL career. It can happen. Sometimes it just takes that bit longer for them to work out their life and be mentally strong enough to be doing everything 100% every day of the week.

Obviously Irving’s physical/mental health is the most important thing but I was more thinking that potentially a shorter recovery period could have been helpful for all parties involved.

IMO we're in a position where we should persist, give him all the mental space and time he needs while remaining on our list.

He is such an effervescent and x-factor style player and is still so young. Show him all the support in the world and some patience.
