Luke Parker
Luke Parker has plenty of football ahead and has already compiled a resume packed with impressive achievements. Since landing at the Sydney Swans via the 2010 AFL Draft, he has won a 2012 premiership medal, earned All Australian selection and won two Bob Skilton medals. In 2015, he was added to the club’s leadership group at the age of just 22, and has led the team as a co-captain alongside Josh Kennedy and Dane Rampe since 2019. While Parker is among the league’s elite midfielders, his strong marking and expert game awareness make him a genuine threat when rotating through the forward line.

Luke Parker
DOB: 25 October 1992
DEBUT: 2011
DRAFT: #40, 2010 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Langwarrin (Vic)/Dandenong U18

His attack on the contest was one of the biggest take seats watching live. There were hard nuts and then there was Parker.

He willed Swans to the win through sheer effort and want for the contest.

Disposal can be to his detriment but can’t argue he leads the team by example and kicked a clutch goal too.

The very definition of a club legend.

He's given his heart and soul to the club and has attacked the contest for a decade to the detriment of his body. Has worked on his game to turn himself from a hatchet man to a reliable set shot, and has turned down constant overtures from big VIC clubs to stick with the Swans.

None of that should guarantee you a game, but if anyone deserves their supporters to stick fat through a lean trot, it's this bloke.

Next season he will likely be the 5th ever Swan to play 300 games for the club.

One of the all time draft steals

Whenever someone mentions Parker's drafting I can't but help think of good old Dodoro & Essendon.

Luke was very strongly linked with them but Adrian Dodoroed and picked Ariel Steinberg at pick 31 (Luke went at #40).
Steinberg delisted after 10 games and of course also suspended during the dark, Dank days.

Thanks Adrian. :thumbsu:

Parker dodged a bullet there

How that man still has a job is a mystery!

He is very good at networking.
Happy to give inside information to coterie groups etc and so although many supporters have wanted him gone, the movers and shakers are mostly behind him.

Also Sheedy is very much in his camp.
Before he joined the Essendon Board Sheedy was effusive in his praise of Dodoro and then when he was part of the 3 man panel reviewing the club's football operations in late 2022 before the panel had even met Sheedy declared Dodoro was safe and praised him yet again.

You now have a situation where Dodoro and footy boss Josh Mahoney don't speak such is the animosity between the two.
But whilst Sheedy is at the club very hard to see Adrian out the door.

Bloody ridiculous that the old fossil, in Sheedy, is still on their Board, after his Hird outburst when Scott got the coach's job.

I liken Dodoro to Trump in that he has this cult of personality that's carried him further than his actual performance and achievements.

Every trade period the hype builds around what a tough negotiator Dodoro is, ruthless, self-interested etc. It creates the illusion that he's an asset for the Bombers. Then he drafts a bust, or makes a trade that ends up an absolute stinker for Essendon, and the cycle repeats, because who's gonna be the guy who fires the club's Disney villain?

Well, nah tho, Trump may have a cult now since being adopted by the Gaslight, Obstruct, Project mafia but before that it was just simply having money and connections, as well as not being held back by morals or a conscience, since he doesn't have any of that.

As for Dodoro every club drafts busts. It's a draft of teenagers.
Which actual trades have been stinkers? Did he stuff up trading a fourth round pick for a best and fairest winning player in a position of need?? Were best 22 players like Setterfield and Weideman too expensive due to the cost of.. fourth round picks??

Oh no, he only got a single top 10 pick for Saad. He only got pick 32 for Fantasia, who can't stop getting injured and will likely be de-listed.

He gave up picks that essentially got McDonald and another first rounder for a single compo pick for Daniher

He gave up Pick 11 for Devon Smith (who?) with some pick shenanigans
He gave up 25 and 30 for Stringer (one of the most overrated players in the AFL who only seems to play well against us)
He gave up 2 first rounders for Dylan Shiel
