Would be a waste of time to have him as captain. He clearly is a highly respected leader in the group without any of the extra responsibilities that come with being the captain.

Doesn't need a title to be having the desired leadership impact on the group, which also includes supporting guys like Jy, Larkey & Sheez in becoming better leaders in their own right.

We can already see that he’s doing alot on field leadership stuff and coaching guys in game.

The title of captain doesn’t matter to him being able to do this.

Let’s be honest - Parker is showing just how glaring our lack of leadership is. He himself still perpetually choked on the big stage (save a couple of junk goals in last year’s Grand final).

In terms of league wide leadership he’d only be just above average, but to us he looks like prime Michael Voss.

Leadership takes many forms - take Dylan Shiel for example, who found a reason not to play tonight. That’s sacrificing yourself for the team.

Which creates an uncomfortable question:

Is the club currently an environment that saps that out of players, or is he just unusually naturally driven compared to his teammates? Either answer has pretty poor implications for us

I believe in this guy. I believe him when he says it will turn and he has belief in this squad. Just have to stick with it as hard as it is at times.

People are harsh on Jy not just because he's captain but because his turnovers are always ugly af so they stand out even if they're no less damaging than some of the others I see. I'm a big Jy defender too though.

Every player makes the errors Jy does and every opposition captain does too, except maybe Merrett but he made at least 3 or 4 turnovers on the weekend.

If we were winning games or even contending no one would care as much but cos we are where we are everything just gets magnified.

Yeah I think Jy makes head scratching howlers. Can’t question his intent, ever. Just makes dumb decisions.
