AFL Player 27: Mason Redman šŸ• - Goes whack

Personally don't reckon that Redman will become a midfielder but at least he's bloody good as a small/medium defender and I think he's only going to improve from here. Great skills, nice pace, genuinely aggressive and good overhead. At worst he'll be a good HBF/back pocket for many years.

I don't hate the idea of him running through the midfield/wing but I suspect when all is said and done he'll end up in the backline which is fine. Not every player we have on our list needs to solve our midfield problems. Others have already mentioned but he's not really the accumulating type either. That said I can see the appeal of his size and pace in the middle and he did show a bit when used that way in the VFL briefly.

Enright was a rebounding defender. He was an integral part of Geelong's brilliant zone defence but I can't think of anyone (except obviosuly Dodoro) who would have called him a midfielder.

Yeah the most midfield I can remember him playing would be standing defensive side of a stoppage if it occurred defensive side of the half way mark.

I think if Redman played midfield he'd be a Xavier Duursma type. Not huge production but capable of big impact moments. Probably would have a wanky goal celebration too.

Could just be my waning memory or did Corey Enright not play anywhere near enough midfield minutes to be considered a part time midfielder? Does Dodoro think Joel Corey and Corey Enright were the same person?
Never mind Enright, Joel Corey and David Wocjinski were easily confused!

But who better to play midfield than a half back flanker? Though Enright would've needed to shed some muscle if he wanted to catch our recruiter's eye #DodoLogic

Redman doesn't strike me as the type to have a wanky celebration. He seems more the type to ridicule Duursma for being a w***er, which would be well deserved.

Pretty sure he refers to himself as Reddog or The Reddog.

Pretty confident that he's the type of guy whose a bit of a dickhead, to the extent he can't help himself, and he plays it up because it works.

Bruno's sort of guy.

Definitely think he'll become unbearable for opposition fans as he becomes an A grader in whatever role he plays.

Duursma is a great kid, actually had no goal celebrations in the 18s so the bow/arrow came out of know where to me

It’s all in good fun. It’s just the old timers who care. You’re only a footballer for a minute have some fun with it I think.

He's looking for a Jordan or Bolt logo. Ricardo drinking out of his boot is another wanky celebration that reeks of shallow social media-age capitalist profile building. He needs to let his footy do the talking. I'm sure he's a great kid trying to create a trademark.

I get that, but there's a difference between a campaigner who gets under the opposition's skin and cringey goal celebrations.

I feel like SMAC, and Stringer get the goal celebrations right. Mackernan has the real dork aspect (same way i feel about Ben Brown) which shits opposition fans whereas with Stringer it's the 'undesirable' element. It's hard to imagine anything much more annoying for rival fans than Stringer winning a flag at Essendon - I pray for this day.

I have no issue with Duursma's archery goal celebration.

But back to Redman.

If he can get under the opposition's skin and just annoys them no end, I'll be happy.

Hasn't trained in a week and isn't playing in the match sim.

Looks like he's definitely in doubt for next week.
Damn, he is becoming an important player for us and we need his hardness

Just more stupid talk from someone who is striking me more and more as having no self-awareness.

Redman is a 5th year player who has played about 4 VFL quarters on-ball (as a third year player).

When exactly is he going to start the project of developing the craft to play as a midfielder? Or is "tall mid" some sort of qualifier that excludes any actual midfield performance?

What I think is more likely is that it could be some sort of attempted power grab/arse coveirng. He has to have some genuine cunning to be in his job after 20 years (simply just playing the numbers at every other club).

Ever notice how it's essentially all first and second round picks Dodorob has taken since 2014 who he talks up as being midfielders?

I keep reading EFC fans complaining about trying to turn flankers into midfielders.

What is the median quarters played in the midfield for Langford, Laverde, Francis, Redman, Ridley and Begley played in the middle? It would be lucky to be double digits. I ask about median instead of average because any average is skewed to the point of irrelevance by Langford who, as the least competitive of the lot buy a long way, is the only player we've tried to developed in the middle. Hell, Laverde would probably be an outlier with his 15 quarters over 5 years.

There is clearly a disconnect between recruiting and player development/coaching. If anyone running the club had half a brain this issue would have been addressed. You can't have your recruiter burning picks on players the coaches won't use in the positions the recruiter wants them for.

Forget Rutten and Caracella. We need Brad Pitt and Phillip Seymour-Hoffman.

I think its more a case of Dodoro's public comments on drafting having nothing to do with whats actually going on internally.
