5 years difference between the two players at the time they left/would leave.
If it is only a third rounder we must keep him. He won't hold the club to ransom, just offer him what he ie worth.

Jon Ralph said on Fox Footy that compensation would be a third rounder for Murphy, surely that is BS if Motlop can get an end of first round pick.
It is based on age and contract offer. How does Ralph know what offers Murphy has had?
Jon Ralph said on fox footy today that he has a 2 year contract worth $600,000 a year in front of him from us.
Unless I heard it wrong that is good money for a 31 year old.

Yeah I bet he has, but he did lowball Tuohy and he asked to be traded and that was a mistake.

In your opinion which you are entitled to.
Murphy and his manager may be in the process of discovering what his league wide value really is and like Casboult before him in the last 2 trade periods , the reality may well see him back at Silvagni's desk with pen in hand.

Small mid with injury concerns at 31, he has bale but surely no one offers him a 3 year deal on more than 600k

If he loses his pace he is worthless

Yep indeed & if that’s the true figure, more than adequate remuneration for his current output.

Been on top coin, those days are over end of this season. Salary % increase will not be allocated your way, which is fair enough.

They only have to recruit one decent free agent and the Blues get nothing anyway. Given that this is their stated objective at years end it realy just comes down to what Murphy wants to do, not what they can get for him.

Murphy's last contract was done by the previous administration and was likely very lucrative. I have no inside knowledge but I suspect he's used to signing big contracts with little resistance from the club, but that's not how SOS rolls.
When SOS took over we were paying out the whole salary cap with the worst list in the AFL and he recognised that players contracts were out of line with industry standards and has begun to rectify it. Murphy is probably the last player to have a contract from pre SOS, and is likely offended at the reduction and duration offered. However if he wants to play in a successful team he needs to appreciate that we need cap space to retain our young talent and land a free agent or 2.
The club has been good to him & I hope he stays. These last few years of his career might not be his most lucrative, but they could be the most successful.

You couldn't begrudge the bloke looking elsewhere for a crack at some finals in the last years of his career, considering how he has stuck by the blues through thick & thin for a long time.

This. Would hate to lose him but think you gotta cut him some slack, we have been absolute rubbish ever since he was drafted (bar 1 year). Deserves to have some success and play in a few more finals before he retires.

We'll see how he plays IF he returns... if he's protecting himself by his second game back (give him 1 game slack) then he's gone. If he decides to not play this year even if capable.. he's gone.

If his oohing and aghing and his heart is not in it 100% (which it seems it is from his comments about not knowing) then he'll be let go with the respect he deserves and you'd think with the loss of our captain, and place on the ladder the magic secret herbs and spices the AFL will surely concoct for us would hopefully be end of first rounder.

Just saw Murphy’s interview in the carpark on the news. Well his stock standard response of “ i’ll sit down with my manager” when asked about his future sums up Murphy and the CFC since he was drafted. Petulant and selfish!!

Why can’t he just say “ I love the club and I want to stay and help because it’s more important than me finding personal success at another club which is not guaranteed anyway”?

If it’s money then really it can’t be much more than he’s already getting so I’d call that selfish and it just proves that he’s always been about the cash. If he leaves for success then he can’t really have his heart in the club.

Personally I hope he goes because that Ratten era of Murphy Gibbs Judd Fevola was a cancer borne of selfishness.
