Just saw Murphy’s interview in the carpark on the news. Well his stock standard response of “ i’ll sit down with my manager” when asked about his future sums up Murphy and the CFC since he was drafted. Petulant and selfish!! Why can’t he just say “ I love the club and I want to stay and help because it’s more important than me finding personal success at another club which is not guaranteed anyway”? If it’s money then really it can’t be much more than he’s already getting so I’d call that selfish and it just proves that he’s always been about the cash. If he leaves for success then he can’t really have his heart in the club. Personally I hope he goes because that Ratten era of Murphy Gibbs Judd Fevola was a cancer borne of selfishness.

Fev bled blue and it was only his utter stupidity that prevented him from being a one club. Gibbs moved for family reasons and I highly doubt he would've departed if he was not a father. Judd was a mercenary and I have little respect for Murphy who is showing all the hallmarks of going.

2006- rubbish
2007- rubbish
2008- mediocre
2009- decent
2010- decent
2011- rung below contender
2012- mediocre
2013- decent
2014- poor to mediocre
2015- rubbish
2016- poor
2017- poor
2018- rubbish

I've done me maths.
Brought out my calculator watch to assist.
Look there's a pattern
It all starts with a 2
Can you see it?
Look.

2019 - mediocre
2020 - decent
2021 - decent
2022 - rung below contender
2023 - number 17
2024 - number 18
2025 - number 19

IMO Murphy wouldn't value a premiership at another club enough to leave. He'd rather help Carlton than take a risk and leave

We'll see how he plays IF he returns... if he's protecting himself by his second game back (give him 1 game slack) then he's gone. If he decides to not play this year even if capable.. he's gone.

If his oohing and aghing and his heart is not in it 100% (which it seems it is from his comments about not knowing) then he'll be let go with the respect he deserves and you'd think with the loss of our captain, and place on the ladder the magic secret herbs and spices the AFL will surely concoct for us would hopefully be end of first rounder.

I'll be watching for things that are NOT typical Murphy traits. If I see those things I will assume he is contract hunting ….

"the magic secret herbs and spices the AFL will surely concoct for us would hopefully be end of first rounder"

Don't bank on it ….

I’m not sold on him staying.....his manager is out & about talking to other clubs...
Don’t fall for the fantasy of 1 team players any more....it’s a business & you set yourself up accordingly.
IMHO he will only stay if the money is good or nobody else wants him...
To top it off I very much doubt he will be captain next year......which won’t make him happy either...

But I hope he stays fwiw.

I love Murph. Great servant to the club.

Trade Kreuzer to Geelong for their first pick and we pay $300k of his salary for three years.

They offer Murphy $800k for 3 years. We get at least pick 19.

Or trade them Kreuzer and Murphy for their first this year and next and we pay some salary. Take Wallis and Guthrie plus a few more free agents.

no

It hurts love them both. But neither will play in a flag for us. Hawks traded Mitchell and Hodge for cap space. Has not hurt them. Tough decisions pay off. This is hopefully our last big chance to attack the draft. Go early and go hard

... and poor decisions offer nothing but suffering.

Harsh words - doesn't make them untrue.

Apologies and correction - we have been rubbish to mediocre since he's been drafted bar 1 year (you and I have different definitions of 'decent' :D)

Think the point remains the same re: exploring other avenues if thats what he wants to do.

Maybe he wants a crack at a premiership before he retires? Definitely not gonna happen if he stays with us, sadly. I don't think thats particularly selfish of him after 12 years of service.

Apologies I am new around here so I may not realise that you are an oracle with a history of always being correct on club decisions and therefore your view should be treated as gospel.

Can you point me to some of your past statements/predictions? I would like to assess them to see if there is a reason you are so definitive in your viewpoint.

I don't mean this to sound rude (words can be interpreted the wrong way) - it is a genuine request. If you have a history of being right I would like to be aware of that as I will pay greater attention to your posts.

You can search back if you like, but I don't think it's a stretch of anyone's capacity for forecasting that pushing two club leaders out the door for a couple of low top 20 picks is a recipe for disaster.

The club obviously looked at shopping around one of Gibbs or Murphy last year, and they got the deal they wanted with Gibbs. Murphy's going to get a reasonable deal from us, and likely no better anywhere else. He still has 2 good years in him, and could easily support the team 2 years more if the club start letting him get his body right.

As for Kreuzer, he's in his prime, and would likely play to that level for us until 2022. Not a chance in hell you let him go for that little, and that's before you consider Murphy's departure or the current 25+ bracket on our list. This also touches on the inducement scenario you've described: the AFL has veto power on all trades, and they will veto the shit out of that.

Finally, with all of that said and done, how do you propose Geelong finds $1.2m in their cap to pay for all of this?

My proposal is premised on both having two good years left. If confident Kreuzer lasts until 2022 I agree with you. Is that likely? He is 28. When do ruckmen usually play until?

I look it as these two guys in 2022 versus two Zac Fishers.

Don't need link but would love you to PM me some of your past comments/suggestions. I like to know who has a history of calling it the right way so I can pay more attention to their POV. Makes sure I don't re-enforce personal bias in what I read.

Kreuzer is 29 not 28.

Kind of makes my argument slightly stronger.

When do most gun rucks retire?
Mumford retired after a navicular foot injury in 2017 at age 31. Dean Cox retired in 2014 at age 32. Early thirties is achievable with proper management. Jolly was 'retired' by nafan buckley at the age of 31 - interestingly the biggest injury he suffered during his career was broken ribs - courtesy of M.Kreuzer.

Generally most gun rucks retire when they stop playing AFL, however some do continue on with other careers (case in point: Josh Fraser, although perhaps you would argue he wasn't a gun hehehe).

AxeCap, I’ll save u the trouble -listen to 90% of what Jimmae has to say about the vfl (apart from where it’s at) 85% about kids coming thru, 75% about pretty much everything else.
1% of what he says about Jed Lamb (he hates him) 1% about Kerridge/cunners (he loves them).
By the way I said “listen” not that he’s right

Haha handy guide.

I also happen to love Cunners and hate Lamb. Don't mind Kerridge.

Don't follow VFL

Very strong opinions on youth. If he tells me he wants Collier-Dawkins well....it's legal now!

TBF, that was after them helping the Hawks to what seems like a gazillion premierships and a decade near the top of the AFL.
