Andrew Raines came runner up in the rising star. Means very little if they don't push on.

Cale was trash, there is a reason he was traded for pick 80 odd. As for Jesse he was more interested in playing his Xbox then managing his injuries hence why he never got over them.

Watts and Hooper aren't average footballers either. The only reason Watts was still on a list was because he was a no.1 pick.

I do think Jack is a fantastic pick up though, and he was the application to make it. But the comment about the Larke medal was incorrect.
Raines played over 100 games. If you can get a 100+ games player in the 50s in the draft you take it.
Would love him to turn into a 200+ though!

Don't think anyone said that. It was more surprise he got drafted as he was always a rookie type, he was a fringe Metro player.
I remember so called draft experts at the end of it saying he was the steal of the draft

Think your mistaken. He wasn't rated at all, which isn't uncommon at his pick. I never heard anything about him being a draft slider post draft either.

First thing that comes to mind here is matt arnott, meant to go earlier but ended up mid 50s, everyone said he was the steal of the draft and would be a gun, hopefully this doesn't happen again
From memory I think we were the only one's impressed with Arnott at that pick, seem to remember other clubs raising their eyebrows. Re Jack, a pick in the 50s will always be speculative, but based on his form in the u18s carnival (and reported good endurance) it appears a good pick.

and coming back from a severe leg injury after missing most of the season

Definitely the type of player we need, can only hope it works out for us

Jack was briefly mentioned on the junktime podcast draft edition. The former recruiter that they had in was talking about shock picks and sliders and very briefly mentioned "one kid who went in the 50s that most had around 20. Graham I think".
Sounds promising.

Depends which way you look at it.
Not saying he won't be good and I liike the look of him.
But 20s going in the 50s indicates either a steal, or something is horribly amiss.
Hope it's the former!

Yeah I'm gonna choose to stick with 'we got lucky'.

Not sure that's how remember it. Also Arnott didn't captain his state or win the Larke medal.

I'm more excited about his leadership than anything.

Draft experts and Bigfooty tug fests are not one and the same

Nz is right mate. Matt was hoping he would be picked as a rookie. I know matt personally

Arnott was busy fighting the Nords

Graham's biggest quality is his willingness to run up and back, which goes a long way to getting senior opportunities. Someone on the talking tigers podcast said his National Carnival GPS stats were off the charts, which is amazing considering he looks like a slow bulking inside mid. Kicking needs to be worked on but he shouldn't have to do a whole lot of that with the names he has around him, especially because he loves to handball out of the congestion. Super excited about Graham and think he could easily play 12+ games in 2017.

Handball to Dusty ghosting past the contest, kick to space for Rioli to run onto. What can go wrong?
