The complete total of NSW footballers with AFL (maybe - post if I've missed anyone, let us know. I hope I haven’t missed anyone!)

I posted this last year on the (much missed) expansion board, and it was updated after a couple of errors.

In deciding who's on it, in general the old SOO rules apply - so its completely irrelevant where players were born, but based on where they mostly grew up and had a home in their main formative footy years (aged 12-17)

The total of 38 is an increase of one from last year.

1. Tony Armstrong, Adelaide, Burrumbuttock (near Albury)
2. Taylor Walker, Adelaide, Broken Hill North
3. Ryan Houlihan, Carlton, Corowa
4. Scott Reed, Collingwood, Pennant Hills (Sydney)

Disgracefull really given that they have 5 million population .

The only ones any good out of that group are

McVeighs ( 2 )
Mooney
Guerra
McGlynn
Gilbert
Kozi
Hayes
Kirk
Bolton
Cross

11 all up .

Thats why the AFL commission want to take control of the VFL so they send sides or relocate teams / clubs to NSW and QLD as the competition is weak there

Gilberts from NSW? Why were we fearing him going back to the GC? Swear he played for Southport...

He grew up in Northern NSW and started playing with Southport when was 15/16.

Doe anyone else like the idea of proper State of Origin or is it just me?
Its not just you. I lifted this from the "28 Northern Territorians in the AFL" thread -
Just to add, wouldn't it be amazing to see a state of origin with NT?

We could have a second division with NT, QLD, Tas and NSW, along with the first division of SA, WA and Vic.
I'd love to see this happen. So would most AFL players. So would a lot of the footy public. However the clubs (including the non-Victorian clubs) will ensure it won't happen, sadly.

yes - Gilbert played for Southport in the year prior to being drafted. However, he grew up in Grafton, Northern NSW, and was recruited by Southport from his NSW home.

As an aside, Gilbert's grandfather was named as a NSW 'rugby league legend' last year.

he played league and union at tweed river high before going to southport
