3AW Whisper - Brad Moran to Adelaide

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

That is the latest claim from "whispers" on 3AW sports tonight. Didn't say what we get from Adelaide or give to Doggies.

Now Gerard Healy was saying "whispers" as he's known is normally 99% accurate.

Could he be the backup tall we need ......the player apparantly flown to Adelaide for a medical.

If the Symes and Moran rumour is correct ....what creedance do you put in Reids statement yesterday about rebuilding using draft picks

Moran's debut delights

Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley believes the rise of big man Brad Moran into the team for its round 21 clash against Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium is akin to the 'Irish experiment', which has seen the likes of Jimmy Stynes, Tadhg Kennelly and Setanta O'hAilpin cross over from Gaelic Football to the AFL.

Although Moran hails from England - he did not move out to Australia with his family until he was 15 years old - and a soccer background, he has had limited Australian Football experience and Laidley said the 19-year-old's was a "wonderful story".

"That's exactly what it is," Laidley said when asked if Moran's effort was similar to that of an Irishman crossing over to play in the AFL.

"You see him and he's a bit of physical specimen - he's 200 centremetres and 100-odd kilos and he's very, very quick, so he's got all of those attributes, but he's still learning his footy.
"He'll probably play around about half a game or a little bit more and we're just excited to see where he's at in his football development."

Laidley said former Brisbane coach Norm Dare told him that Moran was worth persevering with - if given time.

"He's probably played 40 games of footy and Norm Dare, who was his coach at Southport, said if we could get 40 or 50 games into this guy, you might have something there," Laidley said.

"He's got a game, purely on and right now, his competitive spirit and hardness and his willing to compete.

"The other part of it, there's a helluva lot still to work on and as long as he plays within his boundaries tomorrow (on Saturday he'll be fine).

"He's still learning the game and you'll see tomorrow (Saturday) - sometimes you'll go: 'Oh my god, what's going on out there' - but we'd like to just play him this game and perhaps the last game, just to see where he's at and how far he's come in those couple of years."

Moran, a ruckman/forward, was drafted at No.58 in the 2004 NAB AFL Draft from Southport. He has been playing for Tasmania in the VFL this season.

Still doesn't answer my question. He was a player I have wanted us to draft that year as he was that big, quick kid that is english IIRC and only played footy for a very short time so he was always going to be a project player.

I kind of don't see the point in doing this trade. If he was SA lad, then maybe but considering the circumstances, why?!

I know next to nothing about him other than what has been reported that he was playing CHB for Roos and was very quick.

But what does the fact he is or isn;t from Sth Aust got to do with the merits of trading for him.

Statement doesn't gel?

We have 3 young ruckmen and every one of them is an interstater so there is a risk factor there. We might be going for a "security" option since we have always been burnt by interstate ruckman. Hence the SA comment ;)

One of the fastest at draft camp over 20 mtrs and he's 200cm tall.

On the Roos board not one poster is happy about losing him .......generally you'd get some split of opinion ....but is seems universally unpopular

But isn't he from England ? ...long way bloody home

Highly doubt there would be a go home factor with Moran .....think he was drafted from Queensland initially?

He is ****** QUICK. Ran 2.77 or 2.78 for 20m in state screening. Thats the fastest ever at a state screening or draft camp- faster than Danyle Pearce's record of 2.79 at draft camp. Add to that he is 200cm. Freak on an athlete. If you think Griffin or Tippett are mobile for big men- Moran is much faster. if you watched his debut he was absolutely awwsome. Got around 20 possessions or so. I don't know how he's going now but his debut was fantastic. He's another big man but is more than capable of holding down a KPP. I don't think he has really settled into a position yet. I wouldn't mind him at all. I'd give a 2nd rounder for him.

Re: 3AW Wispher - Brad Moran to Adelaide

MORAN. :D

Joke. I've let my feelings be known on him elsewhere. Complete dud. Might be an athletic freaking but he's no good.

How do you really know?

How many times could you honestly have seen him play? Id never even heard of him before.

Yeah went to state screening in Queensland, hasn't been playing the game for long and is from England I think. If you saw his debut game he looked very very good.

Kangaroos supporters were talking him up an awful lot last preseason. I wouldn't be devistated if we on-traded whatever we get for Meesen for him, although I doubt the Kangaroos would accept that unless he pulls a Meesen on them, and I don't see why he would, given that there are plenty of other clubs where he'd be more likely to get a game.

Seems to me all players according to you are complete duds unless they play for Norwood.

He's an athletic freak, but I'm unsure on the extents his footballing ability. (Probably the NC way)

Massive upside, but a HUGE risk factor, as he's probably a big chance to flop.

Wouldn't give up too much.

A hypothetical question.

A 200 cm, 105 kg guy who runs 20 m inside 2.8 sec, playing for Adelaide and standing Buddy Franklin in the Elimination Final.

Who wins the position, the athletic freak or Franklin?

How many goals does Franklin kick?

Who wins the game, Adelaide or Hawks?
