Give him a break for now. Bowling him even more will probably just dent his confidence.

Bringe on Clarke or Katich.

Meanwhile, Siddle is an absolute freak. 17 overs for only 16 runs with 1 wicket. He's bowling McGrath-esque. Tight lines, but also quick. The complete workhorse.

mcgain 7 overs 1 maiden none for 63

hmmmmmmmm....

then again mcgain was (debatable) a first class bowler, but hes bowling to world class batsmen in the form of jacques kallis and ashwell prince

SET world class batsmen

and its showing

wow, McGain is failing epically at the moment. And why the Proteas decided to play spud McKenzie over Prince in the return leg, I will never know. I have a feeling that the situation could of been quite different if he had any say at all in the past.

At least we have an opportunity to test him out with a view to the Ashes. His performance so far has been dismal and proves he cannot make it at test level. You would think that we would be relying on the part-timers in the Ashes now.

With Prince it's easy to say that with hindsight. We batted better in the other tests. Totally different story when you have runs behind you on a pitch offering the bowlers something. Here we didn't bat well enough on a good batting pitch.

Is McGain really bowling as bad as his figures indicate?

Either way, he looks like bringing up a 'century' in record time. Surely he wasn't this profligate during the Sheffield Shield.

Still, at least this is a dead rubber. Thankfully.

Why did they not play Hauritz instead of this tool?

WHY!!??

Who?

You've gotta be kidding?

Hauritz - 88 wickets at FC level at 47
versus
McGain - 64 at 35

You work that one out...

Hauritz (and McGain if he doesnt do something in this test) will never play for Australia again.

You're missing the point. Sub-standard and one-dimensional though he is, at least Nathan Hauritz could tie up an end. In other words, he could do more than Krejza (who could take wickets but had horrible control) and McGain right at this minute.

Much as I hate to say it (don't rate Hauritz at all) agree with you on that. Both McGain and Krezja have both shown poor control whereas Hauritz does bowl reasonably tightly. Really says something about the quality of spin bowling in Australia.

Yeah, I understand Hauritz's control but he will NEVER take 3-4 for an innings like McGain can at FC level - McGain is a risk - Hauritz is a defensive position.

Some spinners take a lot of damage at the start but others like Hauritz never change there figures.

Its a spinner or McDonald, not both. Our batting is way too thin, i dont know what they were thinking with Hussey and McDonalds poor batting form.

It also says something about the way spin bowling is treated at domestic level. Batsmen really go after the spinners and they are simply hit out of the attack.

McGain could still grab some wickets, im not writing him off yet. If he does get a bagful i'll give him honourary status as a "proud Queenslander"

Looking at bowling 4 quicks in England at this rate.

McGain must be suffering stage fright badly. He's usually very economical, even in the 20/20's albeit at state level. Barely pitched a ball on line, or at the right length
He's better than that. Will go to England as the best of a bad lot but want to improve to get a gig in the Test matches. Willing to give him time...........just now right at this point in time though while he's going at 3000 an over.

The first 2 Tests we bowled with stifling pressure as a combination. This Test I've never seen so much collective junk bowled, and that's allowing for the outstanding performance by Siddle. Dead rubber syndrome and a huge let down after winning the series......big time!

McGain, Krezja and Hauritz are mediocre as single entities, but if we amalagate the three, then we may have something. If only we had Hauritz's economy, Krezja's wicket taking and McGains leg spin in the one bowler... Wait, that sounds familiar, for some reason, the name Warne suddenly popped up in my head =D
