I should point out that Jo has NEVER said that Ponting was anything other than a brilliant cricketer (well, batsman at least - captaincy is another matter).

Whether or not he's a particularly pleasant human being is entirely another matter, one which won't change one way or another just because he made 200 odd runs in a test match.

Sorry about this
there is no point of me being here except for complaining

but why does this test match get it's own thread while the previous 5 didnt (2nd vs Pakistan came up after the match had ended)

I would of said that this is the most irrelevant of the 6 (unless #3 vs West Indies was a dead rubber too)

And my basic point is that several people here have an inability to distiunguish between the two.

Spot on but we are curious as to what makes him a bad man

Butt would want to be sure to ton up after that one!

Also Akmal is going to have a curious career, all the natural talent in the world, but too much exuberance/lack of thoughtful play. Could either go down the road of being a decent player who will not be remembered through history like a Blewett or turn out to be really special a la Ponting.

Random stat they said during the Boxing Day test:

Simon Katich has the worst record in terms of being involved in run outs divided by the amount of times the partner has been the one to get out in test history.

Having said that, Butt may catch him by the end of the match at this rate!

I agree with Butt both times there was no run even in a ODI
Not true in either case...

Yousuf: The 3rd run was always there, or it should have been if Butt had got his butt into gear. They would have made it easily. Any Australian who ran the first two that slowly wouldn't be playing the next test match.

Akmal: The run was definitely there - Akmal had time to run 2/3 of the way up the pitch, turn around and run all the way back - only to be caught short by 2-3cm. If Butt had been backing up properly he would have made it easily.

Of course, if you're willing to make sweeping character assessments on such weak evidence you can hardly complain when others have made assessments on your own character as a result.

He's not going to be that special, he'll do what all Paki's do. Look brilliant, get dropped for being lazy, look brilliant, get embroiled in a political team drama, look brilliant, get dropped for poor form, look brilliant, get dropped for match fixing suspicions, look brilliant, get captaincy, captain like crap, get dropped, look brilliant, retire.

He will finish with 8000+ runs due to the fact that even the worst test cricketer plays 50 tests due to how much they play these days.
