They can afford to travel lolSo younger players who maybe can’t afford it can’t go?
Not sure about thatThey can afford to travel lol
if they wanted to go they would go - Merrett and Langford would hire a couple each in butler / man-servant type situation for the tripNot sure about that
It’s probably a 20k + investment.
Rookies and new draftees wouldn’t be on much over 100 grand a year. Wouldn’t be saving much if they aren’t still living with mum.
I always wondered if someone senior got to Josh Begley that way. Probably Zaharakis.if they wanted to go they would go - Merrett and Langford would hire a couple each in butler / man-servant type situation for the trip

The ones who aren't going are making the right choice. Not sure about that

I thought it was more about attitude than altitude. I'm just happy to see better standards being driven and the boys showing a desire to get the best out of themselves. The ones who aren't going are making the right choice.
Its being widely reported that this 'altitude training' trip is going to kick-start our pre-season.
If done correctly, the effects of altitude training are minimal, and last about 2 weeks.
If done correctly, it takes ~4 weeks of altitude training to actually see a benefit.
The correct way to 'altitude train' is to sleep low/train high...i.e. sleep at altitude & train at sea level.
The problem with training high/sleeping high is that you cannot actually train at your maximum, so any 'benefit' is negated because you are performing at sub optimal levels.
All the players have done is spend a lot of money to get no benefit, and actually lose training days due to travel.
A great way to 'kick start' the pre-season.
Whoever let them do this is an idiot.
I know nothing about the training effects so ill take your word, however there are wins to be had over and above the physical ones. The ones who aren't going are making the right choice.

Sorry when was the last time you insured your dominant foot against rattle snake bites and bear attacks?20k nowhere near that!
They’re going for 2 weeks not 2 months and they’re training in the mountains, they’re not drinking cocktails for 2 weeks.
Well that's no good when you put it that way. How are they going to learn team defence when being chased by bears? All we're doing is training them to be a bunch of one way runners!Sorry when was the last time you insured your dominant foot against rattle snake bites and bear attacks?
It’s not cheap!
Other clubs have said that the players enter pre season in better shape by doing it but as you say the actual benefits are minimal long term. The ones who aren't going are making the right choice.

Most gave it away because the cost was a lot to pay for the benefit of starting pre season stronger.
This could have been done in Melbourne and you get more than 16 players - There are enough elite sporting faciliies around Falls Creek to run a good program. To get altitude benefits you need to do 3+ weeks and then the affect lasts for around 6 weeks. It could help with the pre-season training block before XMAS.
less about altitude, more about attitudeIt’s out of their own pockets, think of it less about the altitude and more about the players willingly paying to go on a training camp
Not just about being at altitude. It is a doing a different high level training camp that may cover something different or give them a different perspective .This could have been done in Melbourne and you get more than 16 players - There are enough elite sporting faciliies around Falls Creek to run a good program. It’s not just about where the camp is, it’s who it’s being run through. Different training techniques etc but importantly the attitude of the players willing to go the extra mileThis could have been done in Melbourne and you get more than 16 players - There are enough elite sporting faciliies around Falls Creek to run a good program. Or they want to train and watch some NBA/NFL games? Seems to be the case based on their IG accountsI guarantee you more than 16 players would have attended if they used the Falls Creek complex in Victoria - It seems like the players want to be seen as doing something positive which could have been done on their doorstep.
Like 4-5 players decided to go there in the first place, part holiday and part training as Doug pointed out, booked back in July or early August. The rest only decided to join the trip at the last minute, after round 24.I guarantee you more than 16 players would have attended if they used the Falls Creek complex in Victoria - It seems like the players want to be seen as doing something positive which could have been done on their doorstep.
