Schaffner also sees this trend continuing into the near future.
“COVID cases are anticipated to continue to increase due to the extraordinarily contagious delta variant,” he said. “It is likely that the states which have the lowest vaccination rates will be disproportionately affected and localized outbreaks will occur.”
