How did we get to here.
well it started when we hired hird. then during an injury plagued 2011, we installed a new fitness manager

anyway 34 players got banned for doping and we still didn't do a rebuild and still didn't sack the list manager and here we are

Runners very rarely run interchange swaps now

More often done by indications from the bench in numbers
The players know their rotations. For the mids it might be a rotation at three, six and nine minutes for example. The reason he would have such low % is because he doesn’t play anywhere else on the ground. Durham and Merrett will spend time in other areas which is how they get 80s%. With all the injuries though it suggests that he can’t run out games with more than what % he has. Even Setterfield got hurt in the last quarter so his % went up because he played 73%.

They do hold up the signs as well like you said and the runner would tell players if they’ve stayed on too long.

I dont know if every team does the set player to come off 1st, 2nd or 3rd....... so on

I know some do, but not sure all

Its more to do with him starting bench, then also having another spell off in the back end of each quarter. So 2 spells bench per qtr as opposed to 1 for the other mids like Durham, Caldwell, Zerrett, Setters

His tank is pretty avg, remember him coming dead last in the time trial when he arrived. He doesnt have that 8+ PS body/match fitness like Setters, Zerrett, Durham ect

But id like to see him push up to the 75-80% mark

And when the play is continuous and no goals are being scored the rotations grind to a bit of a halt if the game is not on the interchange bench side. The runners actually mass more forward messages now days so the message would be more about reminder of next rotation in x time amongst other stuff.

This makes a lot of sense.

Otherwise Elijah was incredibly unlucky being the rotation unable to be completed all the time. Nobody else seemed to be repeatedly impacted by being unable to get on the ground when it was their turn.

Surprise, surprise. Given a crack out of necessity rather than earning it, and he comes in to the seniors and keeps making the same mistakes. DE was at 58%. A lot of people stinking it up against the Tiges, but that was pretty much par for the course for Lij. Needs to fix it fast or he'll wash out of the AFL altogether.

Didn't have a huge problem with his disposal. Did have a huge problem with his tank and efforts in the 4th quarter. Was bewildered that he was given such low ToG but even with his low ToG he clearly cannot run out an AFL game.

A little bit more faith that the coaches knew what they were doing leaving him out. He won't be a good AFL player ever if he can't run the entire game.

With his disposal his peak level player is a current Bailey Smith but Bailey Smith only is an effective player because he has one of the best tanks in the AFL.

I actually want to know why he was drafted so highly. I said it in the first few pages of the thread immediately after he was drafted that his disposal looked bad and that was from his highlights.

If his disposal was bad, and his fitness was bad... why was he such a high pick? His explosiveness is decent but is that really enough to get you into top 5 in an otherwise good draft?

Yes, very concerning.

But seems to be an issue with many of our players. Is it our conditioning program?

I keep hearing we have never trained harder but I keep seeing players walking around not getting to contests.

Most disposals for midfielders can look bad as they are constantly under pressure. It also goes the other way - you may have a kid whose disposal looks fantastic in juniors but when he plays AFL the game is quicker and all of a sudden his disposal looks terrible. In other words, its not an exact science.
You can look at ball drop, action etc but even that can be misleading. Hird's ball drop for example was not ideal.

I think explosiveness is a genuine trait to look for in a top 5 pick. That sort of thing can't be taught or hidden.

Agreed. I feel that much of his lack of defense comes from he low aerobic capacity and lack of leg speed.

He surfers a lot for being.a high draft imo but I do wonder how many good slow players are out there? I have similar feelings about Perkins. Just not quick enough to make it at afl level to my untrained eye.

Perkins has the opposite problem. If he had Tsatas' knack for finding the ball inside and read of the play you'd be looking at a premier mid in the competition because he has a rare athletic combination of explosive power and endurance.

Being better then utterly deplorable doesnt mean its good.

His disposal wasn’t identified as a major issue pre draft. He’d also had injuries as a junior so it was assumed his tank would improve in an AFL environment
