I don't understand why Ross is a whipping boy. He was excellent last night. A valuable connection player and his foot skills are elite within the Richmond team. He won plenty of 1 on 1's last night as well. I like the ball in his hands. A keeper.

Funny as well that our MC have copped a lot of criticism for playing him on the wing and half back flank but that is the role he is currently playing for the side

The form from his first year has come back. Very good in the contest and has become cleaner as an outside player. He needs to play the rest of the year. This list lacks young talent.

Yes Ross is not a star. But he can be a B+ player for a long time. That's better than most other kids we have, let's be honest.

100% agree. Sidebottom was exactly the player I was thinking of in comparison. Ross may not quite reach those heights, but he's playing his role well.

I wasn't taken with Ross's game tonight. 4 contested possessions and very little damage with his 21 uncontested. He is often solid in chains if there is room to move, needs to develop some more tricks with the ball both in traffic and in space.

It is the 4 contested possessions. And 4 score involvements that is the worry when you get 21 possessions given to you.

I get that, and that’s the next step for Ross is to be more impactful with his possessions. But playing true wing for only a handful of games, it’s a nice springboard to start from.

Other thing is that Essendon by and large leaved the wings open all night, protected the corridor at all costs to be able to double and triple team the aerial ball when we went inside forward 50. Our wings had 39 combined possessions for 6 contested possessions. Hard to get contested possessions if they leave you in space.

But as I say; does need a bigger impact with his possessions than what he does now, but seems to be trending in the right direction.

His weapon is his believe that he won't be tackled and if he does he will stand up in that tackle and still deliver. He is very good in close and getting better and better with the ball. Reminds me so much of Shedda who once he knew he belonged played like he was better than the rest.

It's odd that he started as an inside mid and has turned into an outside wingman, (who was a pretty good half forward late last year as well), who has a good defensive and inside game for a wingman.

Was it injury, confidence, development or was he always more outside than inside. Could he go back to the middle at some stage with a lot more development under his belt and a lot more confidence. An accumulating distributing mid rather than the inside and under one we thought he was going to be. A bit like Pendelbury, and no I am not comparing, but that is how Pendelbury plays.

He could be anything on yesterday's form, showed class outside and inside, he made space and time in tight situations (something Torranto doesnt do BTW so it would be great to see them both in the middle- like a ying and yang.).

The same weapons he had in his first year when he was playing on ball & before the Navi from Freo fell on his foot but everyone seemed to have forgotten about - including Jack himself.
