I think you're underselling the importance of contested footy. There is more contested footy these days which will be reflected in more contested stats. By the same token, more contested footy means you need players that are good at it.
Exactly what I was thinking.

Cripps is a contested beast but he's also unbelievably good at times at getting the ball to the best option even when surrounded by huge congestion. So I'm not sure what KK is really trying to say, in relation to Cripps. With someone like Tutt who panics or thinks too fast and just gives to a teammate in danger or bombs away, it makes sense, but not so with Crippa...

Carlton positive Media quota has been reached in the last 2 weeks with Boltons appointment.

Therefore we are ineligible from any favouritism from the media until draft day.......and only if we have picks 2 & 3[emoji57]

Don't over rate contested football, with more packs around now, there will always be more contested ball to be had.

also contested football is over rated, it doesn't matter where you get it, it only matters what you do with it

1. Cripps is able to ride tackles so his contested possessions are more frequently to free players. He is using it well, as opposed to the Gibbs/Robinson hack one step kick.

2. Contested footy wins finals. Geelong style turnover footy (circa 212-15) gets showed up in finals. Looking forward to seeing the Tigers coming up short again in September.

Judd shrinking in his old age :$

Cripps given the "Chris Judd Development Academic Award". Anyone else think this award wouldn't exist if we didn't have a Cripps to give it to?

Congrats Crippa :thumbsu: :hearts: :thumbsu: :hearts: :thumbsu: :hearts:

Cripps wins Judd Academy award

Young Carlton star Patrick Cripps has been recognised for his outstanding season, winning the 2015 Chris Judd Development Academy Award.

The dual Brownlow medallist returned to Ikon Park on Friday to personally present the award to Cripps – who found it somewhat surreal receiving an award named in honour of his football hero.

“I put a lot of work in over the summer and it was just amazing to win the award,” Cripps said.
“It obviously means a lot – Juddy is a champion of the game and I idolised him growing up.
“Juddy has had a huge influence on my career and he’s given me a few little tips which have really helped me, so I can’t thank him enough.”

Does Cripper's hair have to be PERFECTLY tousled every time? Does he have his own Hollywood-style tousler? Please no Ciccone gags they bore the **** out of people.

Good read. Loved this bit..

So, who wins? Is it the young man who takes his position in the centre square each week and builds his reputation on extricating the football from congested areas with clinical precision, clean hands and creative peripheral vision that releases teammates into space that they never knew existed, until they run on to a ball expertly delivered on a platter by a player who sees the game unfolding in front of him as quickly as those who have played 200 more games than him?

All in all, one eyed with tinted shades and all, I read that Hogan does great despite a weak midfield and lack of i50s while Crippa just does, at an elite level and has gotten better as the season's progressed.

Paddy would be miles ahead if he converted a few of those easy set shots. With his work ethic, you know he'll be a 30+ goal kicking mid in the future.

The HUN has an article today saying that the club hopes to talk with his management over the off season and extend his contract beyond 2017. Good move.
He wants to sign a new contract to 2019 I heard :D

The best thing that I love about Cripps and the way he goes about it is his anticipation of where one of his team mates is going to be... he gets his arms free, stands in the tackle and then just handballs it away and 9 times out of 10, it ends up in one of his team mates hands while they are on a break towards the forward line.

Blind handpasses going out everywhere, hitting people on the run.

And he is just going to get better over the next couple of years.

Scary... for the opposition!

Gary needs to watch more football if he thinks good midfielders don't get tagged anymore. Just because Vince spectacularly unsuccessful against Cripps doesn't mean he was trying to tag.

Also is Hogans game against Richmond becoming one of legend up their with Koutas 99 prelim and GAsr's 89 GF? Lets not forget he only took 2 contested marks and had 10 effective possessions and kicked 2 goals. Good but hardly one game that should justify winning a RS award.
