I'm starting to find that thread funny now. Yeah Bay 13 is pretty crap, but then the main board isn't much better either IMO.

as others have said, every team is a contender in February and every rookie is future norm smith medallist. So you can't go putting all your faith in the hope that every single rookie we drafted is the next superstar of the comp. The law of averages says that some of them won't turn out as we expect.
If we're to get anything out of this year, then the improvement has to come from our experienced players, who were abysmal last year to a man. Chapman excepted.
The first year players will show flashes but you can't expect them to carry us to success straight away.

Yeh, I don't rate our rookies. I reckon a couple of the senior listed players will go on to win brownlows/normsmith/coleman medals though! :P
 
We already have a few draftees that havent turned out right:

Tenace - useless hasnt done a thing. People bag Gardiner, he will no doubt be the next scapegoat.
Byrnes - ditto a few good games that looked even better because he is 4ft tall. I admire his heart but GOODBYE.
Mackie - finally started to show it last season, I think he may actually make it. Hopefully as he gets better he stops being such a damn girl *cough* somewhere Mackie just jumped!
DJ - Injury has curtailed his career, still
Callan - again with DJ failed to lock in a spot when it was available. PATDMAN's lovechild Callan needs to get a wiggle on.

Of those players I think Mackie a Tenace will eventually become good players. David Johnson is going to struggle as some of the young players come through the ranks but is still handy. Byrnes & Callan I don't think have what it takes.

One thing DJ does have that some others dont is courage. Countless times last year he backed into the oncoming pack and either took the mark or applied body contact to the player coming from behind. Might not have the smoothest skills but does a good negating job and is reliable. I dont see much improvement out of him so he will struggle when some other small backmen come through but at the moment I still think he is value. Might even be used at times this year as a tagging half forward on guys like gram and gilbee.

I actually dont mind David Johnson but I reckon this will be Charlie gardiners last year hes such a dud.

Charlie is the biggest dud in the team....except Bomber loves him so he plays on. But with only one year left on his contract he will hopefully be traded to another club next season.....probably Frankston

I think Charlie's football career in general is drawing to a close. There is no way a player can fumble and fall over as much as Charlie on the hard grounds of suburban football without getting injured.
 
So after another year of doing SFA will you put Tenace in the same league as Charlie. Okay so Charlie has probably had more clangers but he has also done a truckload of good stuff. He has even racked up a few BOGs in his time at the GFC. WTF has Tenace done, ummm he took three bounces and shanked a kick which somehow made it over the line for a goal. Everyone got all excited because he was fast but the bloke got about as close to the football as I did last year and the year before.

Okay so he is young BUT he cant play in the VFL either.

Tenace could have a long illustrious career at the cats......running drinks! Garanteed not to get in the way of the footy or a contest.

In all seriousness though it is a little early to be writing Tenace off. 44 games in his first 3 years is respectable. He has until the end of the year until I give him the "special" praise I reserve for Gardiner.

44 games in 3 years is respectable. But if i stayed away from the pill like he did I could play 44 games. Okay I would suck and do sweet FA but so has Tenace.

I just find the level of hatred towards Gardiner is completely unjustified. Not saying he is a good player, just saying that there are a LOT worse than him. For example at CHF he has had more good games than Playfair and he isnt really built to play CHF.

Same with this Hippy dude, (I think he looked like Jesus and was also was a Cats supporter) I met during my travels in a Dublin Hostel all the way back in 2003. He was adamant Geelong would win the flag in 2007. Not 2006, not 2008.. 2007. :thumbsu:
