It seems to me that, despite almost 150 years of history, our Cats don't really have a big rival in the way that teams such as Collingwood and Carlton do, or Essendon and Hawthorn, or even the interstate rivalries like Adelaide v Port - rivalries where, no matter how badly a team is travelling, it always draws a lot of attention and crowds. So, does anyone else think that the new Geelong/St Kilda rivalry will ever become a big enough drawcard to become like those traditional rivalries? Even though the teams have only really been considered rivals of late due to the similarity in the way they've risen from mediocrity (priority picks etc aside), it seems like the games between the two teams have included a fair amount of heat and intensity between the players and the fans as well.
Am I bit on the outer here, or do others think the Cats v Saints thing has the potential to become a blockbuster rivalry for the next era of AFL footy?
