AFL Club
Collingwood
This is not a troll...Seriously! Please don't let the fact that I support Collingwood deter you from looking at this post objectively.

I am simply amazed that you guys cannot find a better recruiter than Wayne Hughes.

Admittedly, he made much worse decisions at Freo than he has at your club, but some of his decisions have been very questionable.(Jordan Russell in particular with a top 10 pick!!!). Sure, all recruiters make mistakes (see Chris Egan with pick 10:o) , but he seems to do so much more consistently than he should be.

Why haven't you repalced him with a gun recruiter? You guys got whom I think is the best player in the league in Judd, but picked up of all team's Fremantle's recruiting scraps.

I'm glad he left us pendles in the 05 draft, but I think you guys should really be on the lookout for a new recruiter ( as long as it's not Hine:p).

IT'LL BE FOR THE GOOD OF THE BIG FOUR, SO WE CAN MEET AGAIN IN FINALS AS WE HAVE OVER THE PAST CENTURY.(HOPEFULLY WITH DIFFERENT RESULTS)

Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Betts, Grigg, Bower, Austin, Jamison, Browne, Armfield, Hampson, Anderson....i'm not complaining.

Highlighted were VERY high draft picks, albeit Betts was pre-season. Are you really that happy with the rest? Imagine all the other players you could have had.

What about the rest, has he done as well as you expected him with the amount of high draft picks he has been given to play with??

Last year found Browne at 36 and Armfield at 46
Year before, Grigg at 19
Year before, Bower at 20

As for Jordan Russell, the 3 players taken at 8, 9, 10 that year were Meesen, Russell, Egan - Russell clearly the pick of that bunch

Oh, and did I mention Billy Morrison and Brayden Shaw? Pillock

So what? They all look to be worthy of the #1 pick. Who would you take over them from those drafts? Murphy is much better than Thomas and Pendleburry, Gibbs is better than any other top 10, and Kreuzer is naturally a more talented player than Cotchin (freak rucks like him are much rarer than elite midfielders).

So far, yes he has made the right choices. We can't judge the players until they are experienced though.

Next year is when you can start drawing conclusions on the 2005 draft.

p.s. the 2003 and 2004 drafts save the first 5 picks are very weak.

In four or five pre-seasons at Carlton, you cite one example of a 'bad decision' he made in one of the shallowest drafts of recent times (where Collingwood had the very next pick and did far worse than Carlton did) and this is your definition of consistent?!?!

How can you highlight Betts in the first place? Albeit pre-season? The reason he went number 3 in the preseason draft is because he was overlooked by 77 selections in the national draft.

You can consider Eddie Betts to be Pick 80 ... now how good does that effort look?

I could have named more, but my post would have looked like a troll, and not taken as seriously.

2005: Carlton pick 36 - Jake Edwards
Collingwood pick 37 - John Anthony

2006: Carlton pick 50 - Clint Benjamin
Collingwood pick 63 - Tyson Goldsack

I am only using these examples because of your post.

Ok, my mistake. Kreuzer, Murphy, Gibbs, all obvious to the football public as number one draft picks.

Betts has come along VERY nicely for you guys. The rest are still very questionable draft picks. Had he picked two smokeys, I wouldn't be questioning his job.

I beleive he did what he had to with the number one picks, did well with Betts, and very badly with the rest.

What makes you think we made the wrong decision/aren't happy with the development of Grigg, Anderson, Austin, Hampson?

Not a troll.....

How were these guys rated pre-draft? They are only bad selections in hindsight and the club that gets them if they don't work out is just unlucky.

2004 - Pick 55 Adam Iacobucci - Collingwood

Taken after that were:

Chris Knights, Brad Moran, Matthew Egan, James Gwilt

We can play this game for days.

2005 - #21 - Danny Stanley - Collingwood

4 games so far isn't it?

Do you even want to know how many players taken after him are travelling better at the moment? Hint: It's a lot.

I'd say Carlton has done better with Paul Bower who was taken 1 selection before Stanley.

2006 - Do you mention Brad Dick at #44?

I'd go with Joe Anderson at #67 personally.

2007 - You'd be happy enough with McCarthy at #31, but we are equally happy with Brown at #36 and Armfield at #46

Not having a shot at Collingwood but it is easy to select certain selections to make a point.

I think Wayne Hughes has done a terrific job, the young boys are coming along nicely and very happy with Grigg and Bower and Bower will become known as the Buddy stopper in years to come. Our boys are still young hes been with the blues for three years wait another five when we have a premiership then ask us a question on Wayne Hughes again.

Are you happy with the decisions made as oppsed to what could have been?
Mark Austin pick 35
Alwyn Davey pick 36

I'm not a troll, and your ignorance won't prove otherwise.

pathetic atempt of a troll ... this is not a troll ... sure its not.

And the pope invited me out to the pub tonight to get absolutely hammerd. wanna come ?

Kreuzer, Gibbs and Murphy aside

VERY happy with: Bowyer, Jamison, Grigg, Eduardo

Happy with Browne, Armfield, Austin, Hampson, Anderson

Not happy with Russell (although as has been pointed out, we didn't miss much), Blackwell, Jackson, Benjamin

Jury still out on Edwards.

Can't comment - Ellard, Joesph.

Not a bad strike rate. If you take the Russell pick out, I'd say it's a very good strike rate, particularly when you look at where Armfield, Browne, Jamison and Eduardo were taken.

I am more than happy with that pick - we needed tall defender alot more than we needed small forwards in that draft and Austin looks the goods

If I were a Pies fan, I'd be more concerned with the fact that you've drafted 1 decent midfielder in the last 5 years.

Mate, I only made that post because another poster stated that I only gave him " one " example of a better player being picked up by Collingwood. Read the last sentence in my post that you quoted.
